ECVZZ 0 #26 November 24, 2002 QuoteDo you/they still have the mirror? Hi JT- I have the remnants of the mirror in my garage, and somewhere there is a black, full size, lowered pick-up missing one on the passenger side. unfortunately, that's the best description Nick could give. Re: [Dove] QuoteDo the cops alert local car repair shops in such an incident to look out for someone needing a new mirror? Hi Dove, I'm not sure what their policy is in a case like this. That's a good question. Being a mechanic (Caterpillar, not auto) in Reno for the last 18 years gives me the advantage of knowing every industrial and heavy equipment parts man in this area though. Between those guys, they know nearly every aftermarket and dealer parts man in town. The remnants of the mirror wil be circulated via parts runners tomorrow, and everyone will be looking for a black lowrider p/u looking to match up a missing mirror. Thanks to everyone for your concern and good thoughts, and for those of you who've had similar experiences, my heart goes out to you. I've never felt anything worse in my life! Nick is doing well. His arm will be in a sling for awhile, but it looks like there may be no permanent damage. He started getting the feeling back in his hand yesterday afternoon (he had been numb, to just above the wrist since being hit), so I'm hopeful that he'll be back to normal in a few weeks. Give someone you care about a hug today. Greg
flailchick 0 #27 November 24, 2002 Greg - Thanks for sharing. I'm so glad Nick is okay. I'm going to give my daughter a big hug when I get home. (she's only 11 months, so I'm new to all this parent anxiety!)

ECVZZ 0 #29 November 24, 2002 Thanks Clay, the driver should hope that if they're found at all, it's by the police. Greg
freeflir29 0 #30 November 24, 2002 Quote it's by the police That would be better for the both of you. One thing you might do is contact some local PI's and even more so Bail bondsmen or local private security firms. Just type up a flyer with all the info like date, time, and the best description you have. Distribute them around. You never know who might know something. freeflir29 0 #35 November 24, 2002 QuoteWhere do you go, and what's your major? Not really a major....They used to be able to give an AS degree but didn't want to continue paying the HUGE fees to do that. After doing bunches of research I ended up here. I'm taking the Advanced Executive Protection course right now. I may go to a local college and use my GI Bill for a Criminal Justice degree in the future. One thing at a time right now. www.esi-lifeforce.com
ECVZZ 0 #36 November 24, 2002 I've heard of ESI, sounds like they have an interesting course of study. In reading articles by Leroy thompson, it seems to me that the hardest thing about the profession would be the lifestyle it requires- i.e.- living out of motel rooms, dress requirements, and running on someone elses schedule. When do you graduate? Greg
freeflir29 0 #37 November 24, 2002 Quote the lifestyle it requires Yeah...but I would rather be doing that than sitting in this cubicle hell!! Quote When do you graduate? I'm taking the 15 day resident portion at the end of April 2003. We'll see what happens after that. I have talked with several people that are "in the business" (None had gone to ESI but all knew their reputation) and they said my money and time with ESI will be well worth it. One I ran into at the DZ. He was on a detail with a girl that came from Germany to take AFF. I guess her parents were a bit paranoid about sending their little girl all the way to America by herself. She came back the second time without the detail. I don't want to know what her parents paid for a 3 man detail to travel from Germany for 2 weeks. Pammi 0 #38 November 25, 2002 It's good to hear he's okay Greg. It must have been a terrible moment when you received that phone call. I'm sure your son knows how much you love him, but things like this have a way of making us want to speak it out a little more loudly then we might otherwise. We all need that reminder sometimes. ECVZZ 0 #42 November 25, 2002 QuoteIt's good to hear he's okay Greg. Hi Pam, and thanks! This was definately one of those "life changing" experiences. The kind where everything seems surreal, yet so crystal clear at the same time. I came away from this with an entirely new appreciation for my son. I've always loved him with all my heart and soul, but now I see him so much differently. I don't know why, but it's a lot easier to understand his point of view, and to realize that he's growing up, and to accept him as the individual that he is molding himself into. I guess the thought of losing him made me appreciate who he is. That's something I just "didn't get" before... I feel like I'm rambling, and I don't have the words to adequately explain what I feel. I hope I've at least touched on it though, and that maybe someone else who reads this will "get it", without having to have the kind of rude awakening I did. mouth 0 #49 November 25, 2002 Greg, I'm so glad to hear your son will be ok. I'm also glad to hear that it has made an impact on your relationship. Everyone that knows me knows my life revolves around my girls. Everything (except skydiving when they are with their Dad) I do is for or with them. I sat here and cried thinking about that phone call, and hope I never ever get a call like that. I just made my 8 y/o come give me a hug and kiss just to make sure she is ok in my mind. Best of luck catching the driver. I would imagine it is a young person with the truck description and the fact that they left the scene. I would suggest a scan of the area High Schools parking lots to see if you find it. Hugs to you and your son. You really have something to be thankful for this year. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
