What's your fastest speed?

Recommended Posts

One for people with pro-tracks - what's your quickest recorded speed? Mine so far is 156 mph sas (flat as well in a FF suit !!). In a sit I fall slower than flat half the time for some reason lol.

I guess that's the difference in the two languages showing up again. In the U.S., quickest would refer to a time (6 seconds for instance) and fastest would refer to a speed (212 KTAS).

Back in the good old days of racing (cars) we'd brag on both aspects -- one not necessarily implying the other.

My best so far is 224mph in my big baggy FF suit. I wasn't trying to go fast, I was just working on my HD. I might do a speed dive this weekend, hmmm, jeans and a t-shirt, have my legs together and my arms in to see what I can hit. When I hit 224, I had my legs and arms out, just working on HD...

During a speed contest, after some practice runs and having really focused on what I was supposed to do (got 1st place)B|.

Last time I tired again I could only get 220 ish.

Michele, the Pro Track displays speed in two modes TAS (True Air Speed) and SAS (Skydivers Air Speed). I don't have the manual handy so I can't tell you the technical difference between them. I just noted that my speeds were SAS because someone was bound to ask "TAS or SAS?".

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

What was that, like 150 sumptin max, and them down to like 108?

TAS (or true air speed) is the actual speed you move through the air - in a fixed position you will go faster up high then lower down due to the lower air pressure (ie less drag per given airspeed). SAS (skydiver airspeed) compensates for this and gives you a reading as if the air pressure is constant throughout the whole dive (same as 4000 feet at 7 degrees)
