not real hungry in the mornings

Hunny, I don't know WHAT I do in my sleep but when I wake up, I'm STARVING;). Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Nothing tastes better than my Starbucks iced caramel macchiato and my two blueberry bagels every morning.:P

I also have friends I work out with at lunch.. It is much easier when you have people that will push you when you don't feel like going...

Rhino

My old roommate and I tried that. It worked in reverse. If one of us didn't feel like working out, then neither did.

I second (3rd or 4th or whatever) the gym membership. You can find a monthly membership so you don't have to stay yearround if you don't want. But it may be more motivation to work out regularly if you know you'll pay for it either way. I go 6-7 days per week and the more I work out the more I love it. I feel crappy if I don't go.

You know, I was at my most positively fattestest when I belonged to a gym. I would find myself saying "Yes, I can eat this ice cream, I will go to the 'magic gym' tomorrow so it won't count' B| I spend that money on skydiving stuff now.

I do push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups every morning or use that lawnmower wheel thing and eat the minimum amount of carbs. 100 grams of protein a day.

My skin fits kinda like a sleeping bag, but my feet don't hurt as much:P

I liked glazed but not often and DEFINITELY NOT for breakfast.

I don't work-out either. My diet/excercise regime is:

1. eat what I want, just in moderation
2. give in to cravings, just in moderation
3. stay active and not be a bum

I don't work-out, count fat grams or calories, etc. I only weigh myself once a month at Publix to make sure I'm about the same, give or take a few pounds. I always am.

As long as I'm happy when I look in the mirror, than as far as I'm concerned, there's no need to change;)

I am very fortunate that my company pays for a membership to a very very nice gym in the area for all it's employees that want it and it's only 20.00 a month to add family members to the membership. My daughter and I go to about 3-4 times a week. I also go to Power Yoga classes at a yoga house and when I'm not up for either of those but still want to work out, I have a couple Pilates DVD's that I do at home. Sometimes on the weekends in the winter when the weather is crap, I'd much rather stay inside my nice warm house that have to go out in the yucky weather.

The 8 Minute series Abs/buns/thighs are also good quick workouts.

Hey JumpNFly,

Who are you certified with and what are your certs? I've been thinking about getting into training for awhile but then I look at the monsters at my gym, doing the same routine with everyone, and I figure they can't be earning any kind of real living... Do you mind telling your story?

Thanks!

Mandy

My #1 suggestion for you is to find an indoor pool where you can swim some laps. You don't have to be a great swimmer with great for, just able to make it from one end to the other while raising your heart rate. Swim for 20-30 minutes three times a week (ideally in the morning 1 hour before breakfast). Swimming is not only great cardio, but works a lot of muscles in your upper and lower body.

My other suggestion is to relook the outdoors. You can buy great warmies these days, starting with a capilene (or similar) base layer, and layering as much as needed on top of that, usually topped with a breathable windstopper. Get yourself some trail shoes and hit the roads (running or walking). They even make "tire chain" type studded over-straps for running shoes to improve traction running on snowy roads.

Another idea would be to take up cross-country skiing which is EXCELLENT exercise.

Good Luck!:)

Everyone may be somewhat different in their choices to keep fit. For me I have to have a gym to get motivated. I spent years trying to work out in a dreary old basement. I've got lots of equipment, but little motivation to use it. A lot of times when I go to the gym I'm not motivated either, but with others there it's a whole lot easier to get in a good workout with more intensity. I've let my diet slide for the past five years or so. I hope to turn over a new leaf after Christmas.

I've never liked running much. My wife runs about five miles everyday outside here in Eastern Montana. If the chill factor is way below zero she usually doesn't go. If you dress warmly enough you can stay very warm though, even with tennis shoes. A lot of days in the winter my wife returns with her eye lashes and hair covered with frost. You do need to cover your neck and face, wear warm gloves, and be visible at night (so you don't get run over). It helps a lot to have friends also to run with. I'd rather go to the gym and lift weights and use a tread mill for running. Steve1

Hey, SP! Yeah, the only reason I would join a gym is for a pool. My knees are pretty sore, and I know swimming is a great exercise for them. But, as I tend to get lazy with workout regimines, I don't know if I want to pay a bunch of money to quit in a few weeks. I really hate the cold. That just isn't an option for me!

And, Smooth...great idea! :D Nice picture of me, but the one of me in the Bell 412 is much better!

I'm certified with the National Strength and Conditioning association, and the international fitness association...
Personal training is a hard buisness... it really depends a great deal on location and your personal talent. Anyone can be a trainer, really. But you have to find your nitche so to speak. You have to find some way to make yourself really stand out from all of the other trainers. It doesn't happen initially, you just kind of have to find your groove.
ask away, I'm not sure what else you'd like to know...

The key to walking on water... Is knowing where the rocks are

I entered a few bodybuilding contests about 15 years ago. I didn't have the genetics to go far though. Narrow shoulders, small bones, not enough muscle cells, etc. But I did get a couple nice trophies out of the deal It was exciting and a lot of work preparing for each contest. It was kind of like making your first jump. I mean it took a lot of guts, the first time you got up on stage in front of hundreds of people in skimpy underwear. Especially if you were as scrawny as I was. Steve1
