What's the freekin' deal with conspiracy theories?

Recommended Posts

Can sombebody please explain to me why whenever something bad happens in the U.S., there's some whack-job out there that has to blow it into a mind-numbingly stupid conspiracy theory?

What the deal with THIS?

I don't think anyone can deny that we will never really know the whole story...that's just ridiculous, though. Wouldn't that be fu*ked if it were true??? Here we are making fun of the guy, and he's the only one that's got a clue. :)

Of course, the issue is, he -doesn't- have a clue.

It's kinda hard to make a missle look like a jet. Especially when so many people had so many cameras that captured the second impact -- LIVE on TV. It would simply be impossible to fake something like that on this scale.

By comparison, faking the Moon landings would have been simple.

BTW, don't get me started on the Moon landings. Yes, they really happened. ;^)

And the Kennedy assassination in reality was probably pretty damn trivial from a logistics point of view -- even if there were multiple shooters.

Can you even conceive of what it would take to "fake" just the World Trade Center attacks, let alone the Pentagon and Pennsylvania attacks? Can you even conceive of how many people would have had to be "in" on the secret? Taking into account all the eyewitnesses, all the random video and still cameras -- it's a ridiculous idea.

You just wouldn't fake something like that, involving our own people, when it would be far easier to fake one of the middle eastern countries gassing or nuking themselves or one of their neighbors and let them duke it out all by themselves.

The guy's entire theory is just stupid!

I recall reading excerpts back in March, I think...and all I could think of was "his tinfoil hat is on far too tightly"...or "what a way to make a serious buck - he's got the system figured out!". I couldn't decide between the two...

Somehow this reminds of a bit in the Hitchhiker's Guide:

There was this planet ("Nowwhat" as I recall) the only export-item of which was the fur of the nowhattian Boghog. The furs were ugly, they leaked, and they were generally so undesireable that nobody in their right minds would buy one. The only thing that allowed for the economy of the planet to survive was the fact that there was a great deal of people in the galaxy who were not in their right minds...;)

I believe this to be a case quite similar to that.

Wasn't trivializing the severity of the autrocities. Was only adding to your list of what some people label as 'conspiracies'.

The act happened. No matter how or with whom it did. It did.

Yes, this 'latest' conspiracy theory is hard to swallow, and I can't concieve of anyone in their right mind adopting it. However, there will be people who do. Aren't there groups who espouse the theory that Auschwitz and the death camps never happened? Even with all the eye witnesses and records? Unbelievable!

I have my own conspiracy theory. ;)

There is a massive cartographer's conspiracy. The truth is that the Mississippi River and the San Andreas Fault are really the same thing, and that the entire midwest really isn't there. Come on, the least they could do to make things look slightly more realistic would be get rid of all those silly rectangular states. They don't even look real.

To ridicule an entire nation because of the writings of one man seems a little over the top. As for

'We've got it all, and they hate us for it.'

I imagine that you haven't been to France. The only thing that the US has got that France hasn't is desert. France has some fantastic food, beautiful countryside, stunning women, a rich history and culture. So fighting isn't really their thing, big deal.

I don't think anyone really belives this one, but the guy said that the Pentagon was hit by a missle not the second tower. As for the moon landings sure they happened, in a studio!!

I have been to France. I'm half French. My great grandparents had the good fortune to leave.

As a country, the majority of the people support that conspiracy nonsense and are anti-semitic.

True.

A majority of them also beleive that we bombed 3000 of our people to death and that Israel shoud be allowed to be devoured by the Muslim world.

To call them "cheese eating surrender monkeys" like Homer Simpson did would be callous. But funny.

I think theories like this are for insecure people with mild psychiatric disorders and a weak grasp on reality. I do get kind of a chuckle out of this stuff sometimes, but it depresses me that modern technology allows it to actually reach a lot of dumb, impressionable people.

The reason I don't believe in most conspiracy theories is not that I don't believe humans can be that devious, but that I don't believe humans can be that competent. Heck, how many takes of a movie does it take to get a stunt right? And that's with months of planning and hundreds of people working on it. If such a stunt were to be part of a conspiracy theory, you'd need hundreds of people - meetings - plans - blueprints - schematics - and we are to assume that _none_ of these ever made it out of the secret circle? None of the people involved had the desire to make ten million dollars by selling them to Newsweek? None of the people involved ever gets drunk and blabs?

I could easily believe that the US government might want to fake a moon landing. I also honestly think it would cheaper and easier to actually go to the moon than pull off that sort of deception on that scale.

I think it was Sonny Barger (Big Kahuna Hell's Angel) who said "Three can keep a secret if two are dead".

I'm in full agreement with the Billvon that any conspiracy this big would have been turned by one of the participants for fame or money.
