EEES 0 #1 March 3, 2013 If I open my reserve at home to send my Cypes out for service, how would a rigger mark the reserve when it is repacked? Would it show that it was a 180 day inspection or that it was deployed because it was not opened in front of a rigger? I wouldn't be taking my reserve out of its bag or unstowing any lines. Just call your rigger and let him/her know what you're planning to do. People are people and who knows how they'll react, so talk to the person. leon.hill 1 #3 March 3, 2013 As a rigger, I would not reclose it after you opened it at home. I would install your cypres, and repack your reserve as if you needed a 180 day inspect and repack. I would mark the canopy as repack, not as an activation.

You break the seal, you right the check. Take your rig to your rigger and let him/her do his/her job.Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

That is my response also. If the seal is broken and I'm not there, I don't know what was done. So I wouldn' t reseal it without a full I&R."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." EEES 0 #7 March 3, 2013 Thank you for the responses. I haven't jumped in a while, so I need a 180 inspection and repack anyways. I recently moved and need to find a new rigger in my area, and was hoping I could take take care of the Cypres service myself before I got my reserve repacked. I just didn't want a rigger to have to mark an X on my reserve tag because I broke the seal at home to take out my Cypres.
riggerrob 643 #8 March 3, 2013 Wheter or not the box gets "Xed" depends upon how far you stretch out your reserve canopy and how much of a "lark" you tell your rigger. Simple answer, leave your reserve canopy in the freebag and gently lay it back in the container. Close one or two flaps over the freebag, then stuff it all (including the spring-loaded pilot-chute) in a gear-bag. When your Cypres returns - from inspection - deliver your (boxed) Cypres and 3/4 packed reserve to your local rigger.

Wait a minute, Rob, are you suggesting that a rigger would make an assumption whether or not a reserve had been deployed and flown based on whether the canopy was given to them packed or unpacked at repack time? If so, what about an owner who wanted to air-out their canopy before giving it to the rigger?

Sorry Gary, It is really a question about: How many other skydivers have tried to 'BS' the rigger? ... and how bizarre a story the original poster tells his new rigger. The simple answer is to be honest with the new rigger.
