Who is jumping gear that they bought new

Recommended Posts

Hey. Just wondering what the most people do for gear. I am the second owner of my Stiletto (got it with 55 jumps on it :) ) and this is currently the newest skydiving gear I have owned. I used to jump a Saber where I was the third owner (first owner is dead :O ) and I got it with like 600 jumps on it (still flew great). Since I sold it it has gone through two more owners, and the other day I helped the 5th owner pack it. Kinda neat helping someone learn to pack on the canopy that I learned to pack ZP on. I got my Fox Vtec brand new so that was the first (I know, I know) canopy I had ever jumped with 0 jumps on it, before that I was using a Raven that had been owned by a couple of people and a cat (it smelled funny).

Well, I clicked the closest answer. I bought my system new, but have since replaced the original canopy with a used canopy.

So I'm the first owner of my reserve and container, and the 2nd owner of my main.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

My baby came to me pre-owned but never jumped. (I guess nobody at the DZ was small enough to borrow it) I added the main from a guy with PD Blue and have put about 200 jumps on her.

First rig: new Wings, PDR 176, Spectre 170
Second rig: (jumping both) new wings, PDR 143, Spectre 150.

I'll be putting a Spectre 150 in the first rig, and then replacing the rig and reserve as funds allow. I'd like to have rigs with mains and reserves that match sizes.

Rig: Javelin that had 100 jumps on it, Spectre that had the same. Traded the Spectre for a Cobalt with 250 jumps on it. Just traded that Cobalt for a Jedei with 1000 jumps.

Why buy new when used is half the price?

I bought my container brand new. Unfortunately I am not jumping it, nor will I be at any time in the near future because my rigger just took off to Maui until Sunday and there are no parachutes in it at the present time. :(

My first rig was all brand new- custom colors, etc. It was a combination of poor judgement (probably), working lots of overtime, and having access to a low interest credit card with plenty of room! I really knew very little about gear when I bought it. I just wanted what I had been jumping already- Javelin container, Sabre main, PD reserve and a cypres. Can you say "easy mark?":D But I loved it, and now even though I barely jump that rig, I can't seem to make myself sell it!

The Wings container I jump now technically was not new when I bought it, but it may as well have been. The Wings people had it on display at a boogie, and it was love at first sight!:)
Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a sucker for my skydiving colors!:D When I jump, all my stuff matches. I even bought a pair of gym shoes just for jumping becaused they were red and white!

I've owned 5 rigs since 1976, first two were used, the remainder purchased new.

1976 - Military surplus "double L" and container.
1978 - Mini system with PC Mk II Competition.
1980 - Wonder Hog II with a square "Unit" main,
round reserve.
1989 - Racer with a PD210, Falcon 150 reserve.
2001 - Javelin with a Sabre2 135, DashM reserve.

It's been a great evolution to be part of!
