Can you drink beer at the DZ when...

If a person is at a dropzone but they are not jumping and just watching, can they have a beer or two before the beer light comes on. Or is it no Beer until after the Beer light?

stay away from the hangar, manifest, and packing areas, which means that sure have a beer, but yuo won't be able to see squat, cause you will be in the parking lot and not our resposiblity.

All the DZs I've been to don't allow any drinking till the last load lands. I think it's not just for safety, or to cover their butts in case of accident investigation ++, but also for their professional image.

At my DZ yes, but you'd have to say at designated areas. Meaning there will be no mingling of people with rigs on and people with a beer in their hand. Or you could go to the bar a few hundred meters away.

Which reminds me... I was at Lost Prairie not long ago. They don't allow any drinking past THIS LINE literally. But across, there's a bar!

A lot of DZ's dont allow people to drink before the BEER LIGHT because when ever you have other people come and watch they may not know whos jumping and whos not...and NO DZ wants a REP for skydivers drinking while jumping....its just better to wait!!

Also, there becomes an issue of how to keep track of who's been drinking and who hasn't. You know, that if it were allowed, there would be people who would be like, well I only had a couple...you know, the same people who do that while driving. It's just better to wait till beer light in my opinion.

most FL DZs you are on your own merit. deland and sebastian have bars that serve beer all day. ZHills does too, but you have to ask for it specially. I was amazed by this coming from the north east where beer was a forbidden fruit during the day.

Skydive Chicago has a liquor license and sells beer in the deli. But no drinking and jumping, and that is pretty clearly posted. If a tandem student wants a beer after his jump, no problem. If you stop jumping early and want a beer, no problem, but if you are seen drinking in the public areas, DO NOT expect to be able to manifest.

At our old location, the policy was keep it away from the hangar til the last load was down. I did not know that as a newbie and boy did I get a dirty look from the DZO! Once was enough to teach me that lesson!

Yeah, you have to think about all the first jumpers and the friends/family who know nothing about the sport but come to watch the first juper make their first jump. What impression do they get when they people toting beer bottles around? A dropzone I visited here in Ontario has a bar and allows spectators/jumpers (not jumping today) to drink before the beerlight comes on but only from time to time and only in the bar or 'patio'. I think it all depends on how well you can separate the drinking from the sport image-wise... I don't think tere are too many jumpers out there that want to break the no DrinkandJump rule.
