quade 4 #1 October 22, 2002 I don't know if many people here are news junkies like I am, but I've been browsing news.google.com for the last few weeks and I'm very impressed by how good the bots are doing at ferreting out the news from a their claimed 4,000 sources. You can read about how the service works HERE. Well, today I got a bit of a surprize when I typed in "skydive" and searched. A couple of stories from dropzone.com popped up! I think at this point we should remind folks of the general nettiquet concept that anything you write on dropzone.com can be used for research purposes by people you may not have intended, including but not limited to; lawyers, reporters, ex-spouces and stalkers. Specifically, names with addresses and telephone numbers of individuals should probably not be written in an open forum.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #7 October 22, 2002 Well, I was really thinking more along the lines of when an anonymous poster comes on and starts asking a lot of questions about accidents or specific people. For instance, I've been contacted by reporters via dz.com in the past about accidents to which I had absolutely no direct knowledge. I've also had folks pop-up and ask me if I know the whereabouts of -so-and-so that is a regular skydiver at this-and-that dropzone. I think it's pretty obvious that we'd only be screwing each other by responding to stuff like this. If the person is asking about a fairly well known individual (let's say a big-way L/O), it -might- be appropriate to respond with their business contact information (say square1), but I think it would be totally inappropriate to give them their home address and cell phone number.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Luminous 0 #10 October 22, 2002 Better yet, ask the person making the inquiry for THEIR contact information to be passed on to the individual in question. BSBD - Larry'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock

Or, say, the amount of jumps made by a video guy, and how much he earns...from someone who's not been seen before? Yeah, I kinda think you're right... (Edit...hmmm. It would seem I'm (well, my story on the 182) is headlining it right now. Geesh....I didn't know that!)....
