Dumpster 0 #27 October 18, 2002 Coldest temp I jumped last year was -18 F. Had two liners under my gloves, and my faceplate iced over the second I was under canopy. Needless to say I learned how to open it very quickly, and I wouldn't jump with a full-face I can't open. Other than that it wasn't bad. We have heat in our 182, and as long isn't so warm we break a sweat on the way up, it's not as bad as some folks imagine- Easy Does It
Airhead 0 #28 October 18, 2002 Yeah, personally, I WILL JUMP in towards winter AS LONG AS I CAN...But franky, I'm amazed at all the jumpers who are falling out due to being "so cold!" PANSIES! And THAT goes for some of YOU instructors who are whimping out on us students, too! SO THERE! NOW * SIGH* that I've got THAT off my chest... Lots of us Northerners look forward to SNOW (BUT w/mixed feelings for us skydivers, tho) and are getting keyed up for skiing & snowboarding,TOO! Nothing like a cloth rollup door on a 206 during the winter. You really have to get creative to keep the door sealed. Chris

I'm told that at Turners Falls, Mass the winter of 1978 some jumpers would put paper bags over their heads for the ride to altitude. Put their hands inside too. The pilot would tell them when they were getting close to jump run, and off would come the paper bags. No inflight door. I was there the next year, so there might even be some truth to that... Vallerina 2 #34 October 18, 2002 I'm not a big fan of jumping when it's cold out. I think the coldest it's ever been for me was 20 degrees out, and I will never do that again! Only if it's February, and I haven't jumped in awhile will I skydive if it's below 50 degrees on the ground. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

You do the same. Are you still jumping? nacmacfeegle 0 #36 October 18, 2002 The poopster is taking up a LOT of the time, I've had a couple of lobs since getting back here, but nothing too exciting. Besides, its been snowing here today, and more forecast for the weekend.....Ho humm.... Yoshi 0 #37 October 18, 2002 I dont know the actual tem of my coldest.. but here in indiana it does get down there and I am sure I have jumped in some pretty nippy temps. anyways the only thing I hate about cold jumps... gloves I hate having stuff on my hands.. either wear the gloves and not feel everything, or not and some down with two stumps on the ends of your arms.. -yoshi_________________________________________ this space for rent. freeflir29 0 #41 October 18, 2002 It has to be 50F or higher. Last winter was my first year jumping the whole way through. I decided 50F on the ground was my comfort limit. Luckily....we have LOTS of 50+ plus days over the winter here in Atlanta.
Guest #42 October 18, 2002 The cold is tolerable, since it doesn't get really chilly in the Puget Sound area. Unfortunately, the weather is really bad most of the year."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
SpeedRacer 1 #43 October 18, 2002 I don't usually go to the DZ when it's cold. Idon't mind the cold during day-to-day life, but if I'm jumping, and paying $19 per jump, I wanna enjoy it. And I really can't enjoy it if I'm focusing on how frikin cold I am & how I can't wait to get on the ground.
