How did you learn to Skydive??

I was just wondering what the percentages were for the different training methods.

Ah, the memories, skydiving is something I've wanted to do for a long long time, but it is something I have never been able to justify doing. I remember December 22, 2001, I was hired as a diverdriver for a local DZ, 8 days later on December 30, 2001 (it's a weekend only DZ) I made my first tandem with the rationalization that if I'm flying jumpers I should understand things from their perspective. I still remember the door opening, and me freaking out thinking I was going to fall out, until I realized that that was the entire point. I got down from that first jump and immediately signed up for the IAF program (3 tandems + 7 1 instructor jumps.) Now our DZ lives by the motto that the best way to screw up a jump pilot is to get him jumping. :)

I actually was going to do a tandem but there was a mid air head on collision under canopy on the load before my jump. It was some scary shit with Rick burning in from around 200'. After the ambulance left I of course wasn't doing my tandem because they closed the DZ so I said see you next friday for the static line course.

Went through AFF three years ago. Wasn't even really that interested, but the guys in the club ( College Park Skydiving Crew ) seemed cool so I went to a meeting.

Well, that meeting was the first half of the AFF first jump course put on by two guest intstructors [thanks Mike D. and Rob J.] So I payed my fifty bucks - obviously a deposit only - and tried it out.

Turned 19 on Firday, next day did AFF 1. Got hooked, wiped out life savings to that point and did AFF 2 and 3 on Sunday.

yeah, that's me.

Well, I did a tandem first, but I would not call that learning to skydive. I just did it because I wanted to. AFF taught me how to skydive. I was actually paying attention during that part. ;)
