There might be somthing else wrong with my ticker............

Recommended Posts

My mom just called me and said that she mentioned my heart problems that i was having while taking care of my grandfather, and that He about shit a brick when he found out that I didn't have an echocardiogram done to rule out any physical deformations with my heart. So things that could be there is IHSS, or Mital Valve prolaps. Can anybody tell me what those two things are?

>IHSS . . .

stands for idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. It's actually a range of genetically-inherited heard deformities, and can be completely asymptomatic, cause minor problems (like PVC's, atypical EKG's) or can cause more serious problems. Having IHSS does not mean that you're sick, it just means that a cardiologist should evaluate you to make sure you're not at risk.

>Mital Valve prolaps.

In mitral valve prolapse, your mitral valve (most important heart valve) "closes" too much; the flaps of the valve are a little too floppy and actually go a little past the closed position. This can allow some blood to leak backwards from the left ventricle to the left atrium, reducing pumping efficiency. Often the only evidence is an odd sound your heart makes. Most peole with MVP show no symptoms; a small percentage have symptoms that include irregular heartbeat and chest pain.

Hey cool! That's a great site! A gal I work with referred me to that when I was trying to find out more about the valves, where exactly they were and so forth for my job (legal stuff having to do with Fen-Phen). The little video thing was fantastic!

Viking: Get it checked out. An echo is no biggie and can at least give you (and your family) some relief if all is okay, plus a baseline for later if you need to get it rechecked. I've had a couple myself because of some heart prob's I had when I was younger. Made ME feel better!

most of the events i have had were stress induced b/c i was primary care giver for my late grandfather. Staying up till 2 in the morning helping him get to the john and cleaning him up when he couldn't. I would just be sitting infront of my computer and feel this weird fluttering in my chest for a split second. During that split second i would also feel very out of breath.

Pam were do you jump normally?
