Auto Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hey I am just wondering if anyone's auto insurance went up significantly recently? Because mine sure did. Get this in July I paid $285.00 for six months on my 1995 Honda 4-dr. Which was great compared to the $1000 I used to pay a year for my truck. I got a bill the other day that says I owe another $485.00 in November. The insurance company told me that everyone's rates were going up like that. Oh I have no tickets of any kind and I still get a good student discount. What a crock of SHIT.

Time to start shopping. I was surprised a few years ago when I was changing insurance and calling tons of places how much the rates varied for exactly the same coverage. Top rate was $600 OVER the lowest rate! That's a huge range! Open your yellow pages and pick up the phone! :S

It's like the great philospher Chris Rock once said "Insurance should be called in case shit happens, If shit don't happen I should get my money back"

Seriously - at least call Progressive. They really do give you other companies' rates as well. Good luck! I remember hearing somewhere that lots of insurance companies that also provide home/property insurance were hurtin' from 9/11 and also from all the mold claims that are plaguing many areas.

Right now I have State Farm Insurance

One of the reasons that they are raising rates is that they got hit so hard with the ice storm last winter. My home insurance is through them and when I called, the adjuster settled with me over the phone. He said they had so many claims they could not send adjusters out to check. They were getting calls from as far south as Texas and up through Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and right on east all the way to New York. Around here they have had to reorganize and try to recoup their losses.

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

I don't have a car. I sold it after my first tandem, so I could do AFP as soon as I could. :)

...and great rates. I have never had one complaint about them .

Just try and file a claim.

Even though their rates are usually better than everyone on the planet my experience has been that their customer service couldn't suck more. Others in my family have had similar experiences. There was a time when USAA set the bar for technology and customer service in the insurance industry, sadly that time is past.

Oh yeah, about that check, it's actually a dividend, not a rebate. I still have one laying around here somewhere for about $4.00, it's a few years old, think it's still good?
