dove 0 #2 October 12, 2002 I know tons of skydivers are Red Bull fans. I, personally, despise them JUST FOR THAT COMMERCIAL. Once again widely disseminating an assanine point of view to millions of viewers. And to make it worse, I know TONS of skydivers who spend a buttload of money on their drink every weekend. Such a morbid commercial. OK - so I'm getting overdramatic about a cartoon. But still, why use death to sell a product? Not funny or appealing in my opinion. Fall in dove. jtval 0 #9 October 12, 2002 as you can guess my post was supposed to say. the ONLY REASONS I have a tv... anyway, my mother bought me a tv when I was in georgia as a xmas gift. that thing NEVER saw a cable antenna attached to it. just my vcr. haha then I shipped it to korea and got received it in pieces. I got reimbursed and bought more skydive stuff. i wasnt gonna bother buying one here but i was talking to a few ppl and they were like..."yuouodnt have a tv, iLL!" so i bought a 25 invch for 140 at a pawn shop. an expense i really didnt need but wtf? now i have to get the extended basic cable or i wouldnt even get the cool channels...TDC, TLC,THC,comedy etc!My photos My Videos Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

And of course every year at Lost Prairie there are any number of songs about people doing stupid things (and sometimes dying.) "Blood on the risers" is about the oldest skydiving song there is. In addition it is sort of like the old "I can make fun of my sister but if you do I'll beat the crap out of you" policy. WE can make those jokes because we are skydivers and know the pain of losing loved ones to the sport personally. It is quite different when someone outside the sport makes fun of the loss of lives. At least it is to me. BTW - not quite sure why you chose to pick on me. I didn't say YOU should not drink Red Bull. Just that I don't like them and chose not to support them. pilotdave 0 #14 October 13, 2002 Red Bull sponsors a lot of skydiving/BASE jumping. Maybe they are "us." We don't broadcast jokes about death to mass audiences, but maybe that's just because we don't have TV commercials. It's a silly commercial, but I think it's pretty funny to be honest. I don't find it offensive, and I don't think it affects the public's perception of the sport. People think skydiving is dangerous because the parachute might not open. It's just the way it is. I'd rather see a commercial that portrays skydiving as a beautiful, fun sport, maybe clips from Crosswind or Willing to Fly, but thats not Red Bull's style. More importantly to this discussion, Red Bull only sponsers televised events. IE If it ain't going to benefit Red Bull they're not going to sponser it. They showed that ad here in Oz and I've boycotted them ever since. I've noticed, though, that if you don't want your sister made fun of, making fun of her is generally a bad idea. We are very irreverent when it comes to death - I'm sure you've heard a "hymn" to a dead jumper. It shouldn't suprise us when some of that 'rubs off' on the outside world.
