Hey, why is it that professional welding helmets cost half (or less) as much as professional skydiving helmets?

could it be that they only need protect the wearer from light and heat and not the impact of hitting the ground at 40+mph.

Not sure that a helmet is going to do too much for you if you hit the ground at 40+ MPH

Skydiving helmets are mostly for freefall collisions to protect you from getting knocked out. They are also good for collisions with things under canopy such as trees, cars, etc. Although if you are in freefall and you hit the ground with a helmet on that said helmet will do absolutely nothing.

Welding helemts enjoy a much larger market that our helmets do- Lots of demand, a fair degree of competition, and prices go down. Capitalism at it's best!
