wrightskyguy 1 #1 October 9, 2002 Skydive Palatka will be holding it"s annual Hog Flop Oct 18th thru the 20th. This is always a great time. Big Dave will be barbecuing on Fri and Sat, free beer, hot women, especially handsome men, and of course, the Hog flop Competition. Come jump the Casa and King Air with us. Lots of room for camping and town and motels are only 5 mins away. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
lowpull 0 #2 October 9, 2002 Don't forget the drunken debauchery that always seem to rear it's beautiful head at these events. I seem to remember a few nights with a certain, ahem, PERSON passing out Kamikazes like Pez. Please, come play, jump your ass off, but be warmed, drinking with me is a dangerous sport best reserved for the tough........

skymama 37 #6 October 10, 2002 Dare I ask what IS a hop flop competition? Palatka's up near Ocala, right? So, from Ft. Myers, I'd say at least 3-4 hours. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Skitzo 0 #9 October 10, 2002 O.K. I can't take the waiting anymore, what is a hog flop? "How do you keep your feet on the ground when you know you were born to fly?"
jceman 1 #10 October 10, 2002 QuoteO.K. I can't take the waiting anymore, what is a hog flop? Very Simple. Build a 4-way star. On the key, release and all do a backloop and reform the star. Competition is time to do the flop and reform. Simple, fun and harder than it sounds. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

The hog flop was sounding kinda interesting until you mentioned that belly flying stuff. nacmacfeegle 0 #15 October 10, 2002 Is the Bunker still at Palatka? I seem to recall we annexed that part of Florida for Scotland way back in '93.....-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. flyhi 24 #16 October 10, 2002 Quote Is the Bunker still at Palatka? Still there, but in a constant state of disrepair and subject to scorn and abuse on a regular basis. So I guess the real answer is, it's still part of Scotland.Mama, they don't just do the oh-so-difficult belly stuff there. There's a whole bunch of that flying-in-a-manner-which-is-free, too. Can hook you up with a bunch of them guys, such as the Freeflying Erics. Oh yeah, and last year, they had packers there, too. I know that's a consideration for some... This info brought to you by a member of Dwarf Porn, winners of last year's highly coveted 3rd Place trophy in the Hog Flop.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics. It was pretty scraggy when I was there too, but the peeps were very friendly, and helpful. Must try and make it back there some day...-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. happythoughts 0 #18 October 10, 2002 "Palatka" - the town was named for the sound a cow-pie makes as it strikes the ground. Last time I was there, there was bar named the "MASH 4077" that had a painting of an airplane on the wall and a ceiling fan as the propeller. Good choice, a spinning object mounted on a bar wall. Adds a little danger to your evening. I was there the week after that Ranger was giving courtesy lessons to one of the locals and they were very polite. Quote of the year "I was just laying there pretending to be unconscious so that he would stop kicking me." For a while, all the locals thought all skydivers were crazies. Now I guess everyone understands the difference between Forest Ranger and Army Ranger.
jwilson 0 #19 October 10, 2002 I made my first jump at Palatka, and then like ten more there after that . I haven't been there since like 1991 and the bunker was in disrepair then too. It was a very cool place to hang out I'll have to get back there sometime. Jay

A drunk redneck tried it and as he reeled in one direction after another, line dancing was born. Just kidding about "River Dance", we have roaches here too. skyhook 0 #22 October 10, 2002 I don't know when you were here last but it must have been awhile ago. Palatka is anything but "scraggy". The DZ is no longer where the bunker is, it is a relatively new facility (7 years) and one of the most modern and comfortable DZ's around. Lots of A/C, 2 large CLEAN bathrooms, 2 Clean showers, covered packing etc. If you haven't been here in awhile, come and see us now. Did I mention that the facilities are clean? You can't say that about alot of DZ's. www.skydivepalatka.com
happythoughts 0 #23 October 10, 2002 "Did I mention that the facilities are clean? " Last time I was there was a while ago. All the buildings were trailers except for the bunker. In the bunker bathroom was a sign that said "Only flush solid waste, help conserve our septic tank." Things must have improved.
lowpull 0 #25 October 10, 2002 The bunker was at the old Palatka Paracenter. The new dz is about 1/4 mile to the east and about 12 feet higher so we don't have the problem with a swamp atmosphere when it rains. The energy is VERY positive, the core group is super laid back and the place is clean(thanks Jeff!) Winnie Sunderland is noe the sole(and soul) owner, and you will be hard pressed to meet a nicer, easier to get along with lady. Every single weekend just gets better, and all the jumpers there are just super helpful and very safety minded. We have 10 Aff I's,8 Tandem I's and even one Tandem I/E. I promise if you come see us, you will be a part of the family in no time. We are 1 hour north of Deland and about 45 minutes south of Jax. If you make it out for the boogie, well, wow seems to be the most used word to describe the jumps and the party just gets a life of its own. Come visit soon Peace Ralph
