kinney29 0 #1 October 7, 2002 Well after much consideration and planning and deciding to stay here in South Carolina, I have thrown everything to the wind and decided to move to Indianapolis. I'm not looking forward to colder weather (I live in SC now but origanally from Upstate NY). Anyone from that area have the down-low on jumping in that area? Is it seasonal or not? Any info would be geat. Go Big or Go Home
freeflir29 0 #2 October 7, 2002 I imagine it's somewhat seasonal. You will be MUCH closer to Rantoul though.

kinney29 0 #5 October 7, 2002 My best friend and his wife live there now. He moved up there when he got out of the Air Force (Her family is there) He's been trying to get me to move there for awhile, Stay at there house for a few months till I'm settled and have an apartment. I like it here fine, but my would-be roomate here told me she's moving back to Italy and I'm just real antsy here. I prayed about it a lot and this weekend I just knew that that's where i'm supposed to go. My Family really supports the Idea and they told me last night that they were secretly hoping that I would go. I'm out of the Army in a month, I'm only 24, no commitments here, what the heck, let's go for it! Go Big or Go Home

Vallerina 2 #9 October 7, 2002 Cool! Indiana isn't too shabby (I'm here for goodness sakes!) There are lotsa dzs around Indy if you don't mind 1-3 hr drive. The Chicago area dzs are about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs away. (I think) the only ones open year round are Ottawa and Morris (I'm pretty sure Kankakee and Hinckley close in Nov.) All have some sort of turbine. Richmond is about 1 1/2 hrs away. They have a Caravan (full time I think). Franklin has Cessnas and is the closest. There are some really cool people that frequent it! The guy that painted my helmet is one crazy, funny dude! Scottbre jumps there (for a little longer at least.) Xenia is a little over 2 hrs away w/a Casa in the summer and something for the winter. Many people that post here are from there (wildblue, phreezone, cajun, skydiverchick, dengopher...there's others....it's too early to name em all.) I haven't been to Greensburg, so I know nothing about it. But, it's close to Indy. As for the party scene in Indy (I've never experienced it, so I'm going on what I've heard), I heard Broadripple rocks! Have fun with the move! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
Zennie 0 #10 October 7, 2002 Lived in Indy for 5 years. Indy is a great town. Big city but the people are very friendly. More trees than most big cities as well, which is a plus. Winters are sort of sporadic. Generally fairly mild... low 30s to high 20s, not much snow for very long. You'll get a nasty cold snap coming through every now & then but generally it's not too bad. Indy seems to lie on this weather boundary of sorts so the bad stuff either just misses or barely hits. Broad Ripple is a great place to hang out. Kind of the "artsy" area. Downtown by Union Station is also good. I've jumped out at Richmond and really liked the people out there. Little slower paced than the DZs I'm used to (I'm spoiled on turbines), but a very good vibe. Lemme know if you have any more questions. FliegendeWolf 0 #11 October 7, 2002 You should check out the Children's Museum at some point. Even if you don't have kids, it's a really cool place (I worked in one of the galleries there one summer...had a blast!).A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
WFFC 1 #12 October 7, 2002 Try http://www.skydivegreensburg.com/ for the possible nearest turbine DZ. Went a roundabout way getting there so I'm not sure of the drive time. It was fun when I was there, but that was 2 years ago...----- ~~~Michael
