Can anyone say they've legally killed someone?

Recommended Posts

So I live in NOVA (northern virginia area) and heard early on this morning about the 5 murders that occured this morning near me (Story 1, Story 2) it got me thinking about my personal safety... i've recently become an auxillary officer with a PD here and also have recently obtained my weapons permit so I have just recently started getting acustom to having a gun on me most of the time. My question is this, has anyone had to shoot / kill someone who has attacked them, tried to rob them or the like and gone through all the police questioning & court as a result? Just curious what that is like on a person.. not saying I want to go shoot and kill someone but it got me thinking about this wacko who is going around shooting people what would happen if he picked the wrong person to shoot at..

you shoot back.......

I have my CCW for when I lived in FL...it's not legal here in IL yet..but who knows....but then again as long as the democrats have control it's not gonna happen anytime soon...all I can say is if you are in the situation you better realize your escalation of violence and make sure you are making the "right" decision....when I went through my CCW class they basicly scared you good with all that can go wrong if you do something stupid....

Kevin, you have to have all these questions asked and answered before you carry a gun for the defense of others.

A CCW for the defense of yourself is much easier. You will be able to say, when having acted correctly, "If I didn't shoot that person, I would be dead or VERY grievously harmed".

I strongly suggest you attend a Street Survival seminar to make sure you're up to it.

vcops@virginiacops.org is an organization in your area that will pay your tuition to a Calibre Press seminar anywhere in the United States. E-mail them and tell them you want to go and they'll take care of you.

Gunfighting starts when you put that thing on, get your head right first. Go to that seminar.

Does providing altitude to someone to jump from count? It may not get thought about much but I'm sure it's in the back of the mind of many jump pilots.

I remember being interviewed after a jumper died from my aircraft. The news reporter asked if this effected me emotionally. Well duh!!!!!!!! But I told her we would be studying why it happened to see if it could have been prevented and to hopefully prevent it from happening again in the future. She actually did a fair job of reporting it.

But, no, I've never had to "pull the trigger" so to speak. Just turn on a green light.

IMHO owning a gun won't make you safer....it COULD make a situation you have 1% chance to encounter safer, and makes the other 99% of your normal life way more dangerous...

Glad to say that guns are not that big a problem here in Holland (yet)...your not allowed to own one here as freefly as some other countries...

A (girl)friend of mine in Russia says that after 11 at night, almost everyone on the street you meet carries a gun....makes you scared...it's like walking around a piece of dynamite, waiting to go off...

Yup...guns are scary sh*t....

Good analogy, actually. Dynamite is scary to some people; properly used and stored, there's not actually much risk to being around it. Heights are scary to some people; but for those of us who climb or skydive, they're just the reason for the great scenery. They're not even all that dangerous when proper precautions are taken.

Guns are no different than any other piece of equipment. They are surely dangerous, but far more people kill themselves (and others) with cars than with guns. In both cases, competent use is what keeps you alive when using them.

Ok, this is what you do:
  1. If you carry a gun for self defense make sure you loaded the clip while wearing gloves
  2. Loand the gun with soft nose ammo (ex. black talon) so that it disintegrates on impact
  3. Try to retreive the shells after you fired (if possible)
  4. Have a tarp and an entrenching tool in the runk of your car
  5. Load the body into the trunk but remember to wrap it in the tarp beforehand
  6. Go to the remotest forrest you know (make sure they don'y intend to build a highway there)
  7. Dig a grave at least 8 feet deep
  8. Interr the body, remove the tarp though, so that little worms can do their job
  9. Cover up your digging by throwing leaves and branches over it
  10. Desrtoy the gun and the shells. Field strip the gun, smash it up with a hammer, dispose of every part in a different place
  11. Burn all cloving you had on as well as the tarp
  12. Dispose of the entrenching tool
  13. Wash your body thoroughly, specially under fingernails. Make sure no blod of gunpowder is left on you
  14. Wash out your trunk. Go through it with a toothbrush.
  15. Go home, have a beer, enjoy the evening watching the original Godfather;)

I also have my CCW and have thought long and very hard about the concequences of this. Not something that I ever want to happen, but then again when I was 16 I had a guy pull a gun on me on the highway. That's also something I never want to have happen again.

Hmm...sounds like you have expereince in this area.

I was going to say to ask Deuce. He was a cop. I'm sure he has shot at someone and/or maimed/killed them. He's a cop, he had to shoot someone. How was that for a stereotype ?

got it. :)

This one time I was 'with' my my girlfriend and my little brother ran into the room saying 3 guys were breaking into my car, so I got my .45 ran outside shot and killed one, wounded another, and managed to fire off a couple of rounds into the getaway car. I went back to the guy I wounded, told him to bite the curb. Then I got out of jail, started making my life better, and then my little brother got shot in school.

(anyone get that one?):)

...Bearclaw in one hand, Glock 21 in the other, I approached the van with expired plates. Dispatch couldn't understand my broadcast because my mouth was full. The doors slammed open and then the terrorists, armed with AK-47's, began to pour out into the street, guns blazing. Carefully aiming for center of mass, and focusing only on the front sight blade, I pressed the trigger back using the pad of my right index finger. On the thirteenth shot the slide locked back and I was the only one standing. I finished my bearclaw while the smoke cleared, grateful that my latte was still hot. Writing this report was going to take for f*cking ever, well at least it's time-and-a-half....
