What would you do if you were forced to upsize by 100sq feet.

Back up on landing...

That would take a big bite out of my enjoyment of the sport. No matter how much I screw up a FF dive I can usually make up for it with a fun and exciting canopy flight.

Why do you ask anyway?

Why do I ask?? Just wondering.. A friend and I were talking about it this weekend.. We both pretty much said we would stop jumping...

90% of my enjoyment comes from the speed under canopy.. If I didn't have that I would likely throw a temper tantrum under canopy wanting to go faster,, LOL

I would still jump, I just wouldn't want to throw out very high, but then if its 100sq ft. bigger I guess I'd have to. Hell, thats just a terrible thought. Good thing that nobody can make you do that.

No, but after a major injury... most people decide to tack on some square footage if tey return to jumping.

Next time at a large DZ, look around at all the POP's and the old timers and see how many of them don't have a limp or ovious injury. Then look at how many of those that are limping are jumping pocket rockets vs normal canopies.

And tomorrow is a mystery

Hmmmm.. I'd practice Downwind, crosswind and accuracy landings to get them perfect consistently.
Course you never mentioned how long either...
I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. eat sushi, get smoochieTTK#1

I lost the entire summer last year due to knee surgery after a landing that wasn't even bad, just a freak thing. When I got the doctors reluctant permission to jump again everyone wanted me to start back with a bigger canopy, I'm probably an idiot for not, but I just felt that I was my canopy damnit and I'm gonna stick with it.

There's so many cool things about skydiving. It's almost every time I jump that find something else to get excited about.

Saturday, myself Val and Wildblue had planned a 3 way freefly jump out of the porter. We hadn't planned any specific exit, just follow Val out. I'd been sitting in the back seat of the Porter. Val left, Seth followed her, and I tried - finding out the hard way that I still had my seat belt on. D'oh! I took my seat belt off, then left - remembering that I'd forgotten to turn on my camera. While holding a head down, I even managed to turn on my camera. Despite having left at least 10 seconds after Seth and Val, I was on level, about 50 feet horizontal long before breakoff. THAT, was a rush. Everything came togeather, even thought the dive was hosed.

Later that day, hitting a 4 point 16 way belly jump left me with my biggest smile of the day.

If I had to upsize by a hundred feet what would I do? The same thing I did at Rantoul when I was jumping a spectre 210. Have a boatload of fun.

Keep jumping of course. Probably a different type of canopy (back to F111 -- after all, it's easier to pack). Heck, my 20' diameter round reserve works out to 314 sq. ft.
For me, the canopy ride isn't the main part of jumping. Maybe that will change with a new canopy, but an awful lot of people have enjoyed skydiving when the parachute was really just a means to reach the ground safely.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
