What did he do?

Recommended Posts

In the Sept. issue of Parachutist they made an announcement that USPA revoked the membership and ratings of Benjamin Rayner for life. Who the hell is Benjamin Rayner, does he measure the f#$%ing air?(Harlem Nights quote) Anyway I hate it when they make a statement like that and don't tell you why. Does anyone out there know what he did? Curiosity is killing this kitty!

Oh yeah, please don't spell check me Michelle. That was sooo funny!

Dude, I think he must have impregnated the daughter of the USPA president, cause they made it terminal. I figure he has two choics now: change his name or jump from treesB|. Or he can whip out his BPA membership card and "keep on dancing". At ZHills nobody knows.

Thanks for hooking that up.
I would definitely change my name and hair color and even go so far as playing student at a tiny little dropzone somewhere to coincide with my new identity so I could keep jumping!

Neither dude! The guy is a Brit. So he goes to the UK, gets a British Parachute Association license and is perfectly legal to jump in the US. They took his USPA license. They have not banned him from US airspace;). Have to be creative. But I still think he banged up the daughter of the USPA president, even if he does not have oneB|

Well licensing certifies that you can jump as you have a certain knowledge of skydiving. If you are not licensed the club is liable for what may happen to you. USPA is the licensing body. If you come off the street without your USPA license it is extremely unlikely that you will be allowed to jump.

Don't quote me on this but I think that technically when jumping at a USPA DZ you are supposed to have atleast a "temporary" USPA membership or foriegn equivalent. At USPA DZ's when you commit to going thru a student status one of the first things you'll do is apply for membership which covers their arse and yours.
Correct me if I'm off base...

Ummm. No. That's what your logbook and the waiver are for.

The reason that the (mostly USPA Group Member) DZ want you to be a USPA member comes down to one simple thing: Insurance. As a USPA member, you carry liability insurance.

The DZ, club, whatever accepts no liability from you, or you from them.,the second you sign the waiver. They just want to make sure that you have insurance in case you happen to land on a plane, power-lines, car, etc...

If you cut-away a bag-lock and it crashes through the roof of a house, it's covered as a USPA member.

It's really the only reason I still bother to renew.

I was told some stuff like if it happens at a non GM site now its not covered... any one know if this is really the caser and when did it change?

I would be very surprised if that were true. The insurance is supposed to cover any current USPA member-skydiver making a legal (i.e. non-bandit, not through clouds, etc...) jump.

I would guess the person to talk to at USPA for a definitive answer would be either Jim Couch(?) or Toni at USPA.

Well, the insurance and the fact that your ratings don't mean shit if your membership isn't current (unless of course you're working at a non-GM dz)...

Heh.:) Yeah, well, there's that, too.
