Jessica 0 #1 September 19, 2002 I'm in a bad mood! So I dug up this old thread: www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=13081;search_string=Your%20favorite%20poem;#13081 It cheered me up. Here is a pome: "If" Rudyard Kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowance for their doubting too, If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream--and not make dreams your master, If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breath a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much, If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!Skydiving is for cool people only
skymama 37 #2 September 19, 2002 A friend just tuned me in to this poem recently. I like it a lot... To the Virgins, to make much of Time GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying: And this same flower that smiles to-day To-morrow will be dying. The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun, The higher he 's a-getting, The sooner will his race be run, And nearer he's to setting. That age is best which is the first, When youth and blood are warmer; But being spent, the worse, and worst Times still succeed the former. Then be not coy, but use your time, And while ye may, go marry: For having lost but once your prime, You may for ever tarry. Robert Herrick. 1591–1674She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Jessica 0 #7 September 19, 2002 For those who haven't had the rare pleasure of listening to me whine, RTGO™ means Reason To Go On™. It is my maudlin equivalent to moodyskydiver's "natural highs" I guess. Being called said "other terms" by PhreeZone is a RTGO™. Looming low and ominous In twilight premature Thunderheads are rumbling In a distant overture... All at once, the clouds are parted. Light streams down in bright unbroken beams... FallingMarc 0 #17 September 20, 2002 This one makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I don't know who wrote it. Heart of the Moon Tonight I sat upon the step And listened while the evening slept To the moon who spoke so soft to me Of life and love and destiny. Watching as clouds covered her light, Sitting quietly in the dark of night. Sad they'd hidden her beauty away, I wondered what the moon would say. Clouds wisped away; then all was clear, Beauty intact; I'd had nothing to fear. Then joy in her light touched my heart As I watched the dark of the clouds depart. She spoke to me from high above "You should not hide your heart from love; For pain, like clouds, will soon pass by And your light will fill the evening sky". And then quietly she left me all alone To ponder the seeds that she had sown; And knowing this was my destiny To open my heart and set it free.

quatorze 1 #19 September 20, 2002 Invictus OUT of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. Cajones 0 #21 September 20, 2002 Okay, how about some homemade poetry... Here it goes (If it sucks - too bad). I sit on the floorAnd fasten my beltLean back and make spaceFor others to takeThey sit and belt in The engine winds upThe plane starts to moveWe taxi to fiveAnd get ready to rideTo our playground - the sky The pilot looks backTo write on his listHow many souls this timeHow will this bird climbAnd full throttle we go Flaps up brakes offKeep weight forwardFor this she was builtWith engine full tiltPull back on the yoke And up into the skyAnother dimension revealedThe vibe starts to buildAs we enter our worldThe gateway behind us In front of us our joy I'm not sure if it's finished, but my brain is starting to hurt... christoofar 0 #22 September 20, 2002 This is a free verse poem I wrote for a loser professor @ university. :) Mindless I grasp at why I must compose this idiotic verse. No idea why time is so slow, since I want to leave. Then I look down under my papers and see why I am so tired of this course! freeflir29 0 #23 September 20, 2002 I sure can't stand poetry. Every time I read poetry all I can think of is that scene in Animal House where the guy is on the stairs singing "I had chicken...it had no bones..." about the time John Belushi grabs his guitar and smashes it. What a great movie....
