FallRate 0 #1 September 18, 2002 I have an idea for making sure that there is a Jet at the next WFFC. I work in Grand Forks, ND but I shuttle to Thief River Falls, MN on a nightly basis to launch a feeder Caravan to GFK. Anyway, about three weeks ago an American Airlines 727-200 showed up at the TVF ramp. Curious as to why, I asked the airport manager. Apparently AA DONATED this plane to the local A&P school!!! This is an airworthy 727 which currently has 21,000 pounds of fuel on board, and it is scheduled to be ripped apart by mechanics in training. This is just wrong!!! That poor plane deserves better! So here's the plan. All I need is a 727 crew willing to liberate an airworthy 727 from the death sentence that is about to be imposed on it. Any takers??? On a more serious note, the school might be willing to sell the thing on the cheap. Kirlin!? FallRate
fasterfaller 0 #2 September 18, 2002 I am surprised that don has not bought a 727 and lease it out most of the year . I have seen them for sale for around 1-3 million in airworthy condition . We could start a front a&p school and look for a 727 donation .
steve1 5 #3 September 18, 2002 I know an airline pilot who lives in Bozeman, Montana. He's also been a skydiver for about 30 years. His name is Robby Buckles. He flies to Japan on a regular basis. Maybe he could help you out. Steve1
nws01 0 #4 September 18, 2002 I can fly the 727 on Flight Simulator 2002. If you are willing to chance it I think I can get it off the ground. Landing maybe a little different.

Derekbox 0 #14 September 19, 2002 ok not to bust bubbles here but REALITY check... It would cost you WAY more money than you are thinking about... Im sure that plane needs a D check, turbine overhauls, modifications to make it jump worthy (plus getting the 337 approved for that), remodeling the interior... But hey, if you can make it happen, youd have my mad respect... Probably better off just buying an old bizjet and using it.
PhreeZone 20 #15 September 19, 2002 As an aside, Delta is trying to retire all the 727's they can due to the maintence fees, upgrade costs and age of the planes. There are a few dozen sitting in the AZ desert right now just waiting to be freed... I mean inspected. Maybe if we all chip in we could buy one...Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
