AndyMan 7 #6 September 18, 2002 Yeah... too bad I left those sunglasses in the rental car I returned sunday night... What is it with expensive glasses? I've got a pile fo $5 sunglasses I've collected over the years, but I swear I can't hold onto an expensive pair to save my life. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Levin 0 #9 September 18, 2002 no, he kicked out of it. it actually opened clean but at the last second turned a 180 faster than he could keep up and then just spun up. even with all those twist it wasn't spinning very fast. he got out of it no problem. levin vSCR#17, vSCS#
rgoper 0 #10 September 18, 2002 that's good news, his looked a lot like mine, only my toggles were spun up behind my kneck as well. any idea what causes this guys? i've had line twists before but sheesh! thats rediculous!--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
AndyMan 7 #11 September 18, 2002 Quoteidea what causes this guys? Spinning malfunctions are usually cause by one of: a) very bad body position on deployment. b) unstowed toggle c) line-over malfunction. You can rule out B if both toggles were still stowed when you retrieved the main. You can tell if it's C if the canopy takes a strange shape during deployment. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

ramon 0 #13 September 18, 2002 also if you do not leave enough line left over after the last stow the snatch force will make the lines taught and as the lines are pulled through the riser chanel they can catch the reserve container and spin the D bag. I leave 18-24 inches...so do many of the pro swoopers (mind you loading a canopy at 2.2 or higher can make it really sensitive at openeing). ramon"Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. rgoper 0 #15 September 18, 2002 Quotealso if you do not leave enough line left over after the last stow the snatch force will make the lines taught and as the lines are pulled through the riser chanel they can catch the reserve container and spin the D bag. this is my theory as well. if it was bad body position, it'd be a far more recurring thing.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
Levin 0 #16 September 18, 2002 QuoteSpinning malfunctions are usually cause by one of: a) very bad body position on deployment. b) unstowed toggle c) line-over malfunction. i think the primary cause of a spinning malfunction is a sloppy packjob. paying attention to detail and keeping everything semetrical will help prevent this. the second biggest cause i think is poor body position on deployment. levin vSCS#
ramon 0 #17 September 18, 2002 also on my VX (extra persnickity) seems if I get sloppy putting it in the bag it spins. I have been keeping track of this. one side will open before the other and it will fly that direction. Levin 0 #19 September 18, 2002 after watching the video i think pablo's line twist was caused by body position. it opened cleanly until the last second it turned it quick 180. possibly he leaned in the harness on one side and the canopy was fixen to turn off heading the other direction. levin vSCR#
kbell 0 #20 September 18, 2002 You can see in the still that both brakes are unstowed, so this most likely started out as a packing error. After that, I'd guess that either uneven inflation or slight unevenness in the harness caused one side of the canopy to surge forward before the other. ramon 0 #21 September 18, 2002 toggle tops do appear to be out of the toggle keepers..that is true. Pablo might have some funky keepers, but you are right."Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.
