councilman24 37 #2 June 5, 2013 This actually came out to pilot types a week and a half ago. One of my pilot customers forwarded it to me. Not sure why they got it before we did. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
pchapman 279 #3 June 6, 2013 Well that's odd. So are they saying it is only their EASA approval that lapsed? And is it because of a paperwork snafu ? Or not getting the required inspections for production authorization? Basik must have gotten a TSO too, in addition to any EASA certification, otherwise it wouldn't be selling in the USA. As far as I know, "having a TSO" also requires the production facility & processes to have some sort of production authorization, otherwise the products coming from the factory are not considered to be TSO'd (even if the original design is TSO'd). Since the FAA isn't grounding the rigs pending inspection, I guess the TSO production authorization is still valid. Yet the FAA is still strongly recommending following the bulletin, grounding pending inspection at the manufacturer. So do they or do they not think that the TSO production authorization is still valid? Their concern suggests it is more than just misfiled paperwork. (Even if the rig manufacturer is doing the best it can to produce a quality product, just like all the other companies.) A curious situation. Most of us skydivers don't actually know anything about producing goods to TSO standards, so all I can do is throw up lots of only somewhat informed questions. Presumably we'll hear more eventually about what the error was and its implications.
BKR 0 #4 June 6, 2013 Hello all, it was, I say was, because this happened December 24th 2012....and everything has been fixed since this date. Only paperwork to be updated. For those who don't know EASA has nothing to do anymore with sport parachute since 2006. The French FAA (names DGAC) asked us to remake the final control before delivery as it has been done before....Stupid situation, life is life.Jérôme Bunker Basik Air Concept www.basik.fr http://www.facebook.com/pages/Le-Luc-France/BASIK-AIR-CONCEPT/172133350468
Mogwai 0 #5 June 6, 2013 Re: "This EAD specifies that European owners and operators return to the manufacturer all reserve parachute systems manufactured by Basik Air Concept and delivered after September 30, 2011 without a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Form 1 release certificate." So what happens after I send my parachute back? Do I lose it? Do I get a new chute to replace it? Do I get a refund of my purchase price? Do I get a depreciated refund? Do I get the same chute back with new paperwork to authenticate it? What? I'm not sending my gear back without knowing what's going to happen to it. And what if I just keep it and keep on jumping it? Any problems with that?
