wingnut 0 #1 September 13, 2002 well i was flipping through channels her on cable (yes i have cable, but just cuz it's only an extra 20 bucks on top of my cable modem) so i got to the science channel and they had this extream rides thing...well there is a 250 ft freefall ride in pitsburg called the "pitfall" they were talking about how the only way you used ta beable to get the feeling of weightlesness was in a jet doing hyperbolas but that this ride like alot of others takes out the risk but leaves the thrill most people seek. i though it was sorta funny, cuz to me if you tke the risk way it's really not that thrilling anymore...it'd be like skydiving when your dead, so what if ya don't pull.........and then i was also thinking...okay skydiving isn't in itself a ride but it is a ride once your done..i.e. that was wicked ride under that vx70...... so here's my question.....would you consider skydiving a freefall ride or not....... i know it's more eqquted to flying and all, but hey i gouess you could say it's a ride, i mean what, i'm gona just stop in mid air......i mean that once when i was watching this video i saw a guy go "up" on deployment so i guess maybe i could just stop in freefall...lol..... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"

Brisco 0 #3 September 13, 2002 Yeah, I consider a skydive a "ride" - but it's a ride you can do over and over and over and not get tired of it! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee.... Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.
jraf 0 #4 September 13, 2002 Dave, As a native of PITTSBURGH, PA I write to you full of anger. The city that sports the Kennywood amusement park is PITTSBURGH. The ride is in PITTSBURGH. Look at the spelling and say after me: PITTSBURGH, I like PITTSBURGH! Not pitsburg PITTSBURGH. On other hand it is a pretty cool ride. Totally different sensation that skydiving. I don't consider skydiving a ride. Rides are for the masses - a safe way of synthetically living the adventure. Skydiving is the adventure. I went to Universal Studios with a few people from the DZ on Wednesday. We went to the disaster rides and all of us came to the same conclusion - cool rides, but it would be so much more fun to be in an earthquacke or a real tornado! Sure it's risky - so what! So if you want to take a good ride - come to PITTSBURGHjraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. Muff #3275
Iflyme 0 #5 September 13, 2002 Wingy, I'd save my money for J/T's ... skydiving is a GREAT ride!
Sinkster 0 #6 September 13, 2002 A ride is a passive thing. U sit there and get taken for a ride. So tandem = ride. Sitting in jump plane on way up = ride. Diving out the door and flying your body is definately not a ride. Not even close.
bbarnhouse 0 #7 September 13, 2002 Tandems are a human amusement ride
Iflyme 0 #8 September 13, 2002 QuoteDiving out the door and flying your body is definately not a ride. Not even close. I ride the column of air on the way down. I guess it depends on how you interpert the word "ride" (and no, I'm not going for a dictionary)
Sinkster 0 #9 September 13, 2002 In that case you are using the word ride as a verb. But what the original post asks is if skydiving itself is a ride--which is a noun. Big difference. People 'ride' horses, but most don't consider horses a 'ride'. We even call it the "canopy ride."A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
