jams 0 #26 September 5, 2002 okok.it happened to me once. had spent the morning cutting trees in front of the house, and then went on a 10 mile /2000' vertical bike ride, and came back and sat down to have a beer, when i stood up the world went blank for a moment, and i went through a picture window and blood and glass was everywhere..... the sweetie i had gone riding with helped me by pulling the glass out of my back, i was so embarrassed i thought i would never see her again. the next day i saw the doc and he said i have low blood pressure, and to keep food in my system! he also mentioned i shouldn't tell anyone (oops) because a history of fainting they will take your drivers license away in california! out here in the land of fruit and nuts it kinda makes sense. come to think of it another time a friend was over and we had spent the whole day making love, it was hot and we were sweating a lot, and when she stood up and i caught her as she passed out. she was really frightened... but there was another time exerting a lot of energy without fuel... as advised please see a doc, and have some basic blood tests like anemia and diabetes... it could save your life. but be sure to reduce the stress 'cuz it will save your life! matt

Zennie 0 #29 September 5, 2002 Quote I've had it happen to two friends in the last month. One had not eaten properly. The other had taken a lot of Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin in high doses is known to cause seizures. I know 'cuz I'm on it. I'm not saying this is what's happening here (though it may be), but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's what happened to your friend who was on Wellbutrin. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

happythoughts 0 #32 September 5, 2002 Wellbutrin can cause seizures. It is documented. If you have an electrolyte imbalance from lack of eating or eating disorder, too much W will spank you. To quit smoking, you get 50mg. When using it as an anti-depressant, the dosage can go 300-450mg. Lack of food and down you go. What someone calls "passing out", may be a seizure. Definitely, go see a doctor. If you are not eating, on meds, or have high stress, be honest. An EEG will tell. I don't often mention that people should seek a medical opinion, this is very important. Jessica 0 #33 September 5, 2002 Quote Wellbutrin can cause seizures. It is documented. Got a source? It's my understanding that this is outdated information, based on some incidents that turned out not to be caused by the meds at all. Hey Ted -- how's that Adderall working out for you? And yes, blondeflyer, go to the doctor. Random fainting is bad.Skydiving is for cool people only
happythoughts 0 #34 September 5, 2002 "outdated information" This is the link from WebMd: http://my.webmd.com/content/article/1680.50555 "Wellbutrin is usually my second-choice antidepressant," says psychiatrist Andy Myerson. "I've had remarkable success with it, but many people are scared by the potential for seizures. It's tricky." "As mentioned above, the biggest problem associated with Wellbutrin is the fact that psychiatrists are nervous about a risk of seizure four times higher than with other antidepressants. Overdosing is a particular danger, since the chance of a seizure increases almost tenfold at twice the normal daily dose of 300 milligrams. " Personal friend within last 2 months. Doc upped dosage to 3 - 150mg a day. A total of 450 mg. - this is the maximum dosage recommended. Remember, the max dosage applies to a 250 lb. guy better than a 120 lb. girl. Result - seizure. Hit floor, chipped tooth, black eye, banged chin, trip to ER. It is possible to be "susceptible" to seizures and never have one. The med or an imbalance in electrolytes may trip it. If it does it in a car at 60 mph - whack. The danger relating to seizures is printed in the drug info that is included when you get the prescription. It is a high dosage risk. Jessica 0 #35 September 5, 2002 Hmm. Thanks for the link. I'm still inclined to think that the seizure paranoia associated with Wellbutrin is not entirely justified (from my own research when I was prescribed the drug). This is from www.wellbutrin-side-effects.com: ... Burroughs-Wellcome scrambled to save its multimillion-dollar investment in Wellbutrin, and came up with a new slow-release (SR) formulation, now the standard prescription. Wellbutrin-SR caused seizures in only 0.1 percent of users, comparable to the seizure risk of Prozac and Paxil, and lower than the risk associated with Zoloft (0.2 percent), Luvox (0.2 percent) and Celexa (0.3 percent), according to the 2000 edition of the standard drug reference "Drug Facts and Comparisons." But the damage had been done. Wellbutrin was a seizure-tainted drug. Today, a dozen years after its release, with no evidence of unusually high seizure risk, "Drug Facts and Comparisons" still includes a warning about its seizure risk. But there is no such warning for Zoloft, Luvox and Celexa, all of which cause seizures at a higher rate. happythoughts 0 #36 September 5, 2002 "You can find support for any point of view on the Net...." I agree. I am not a doctor (unless you are seeking an examination...). The words "seizure" and "passing-out" just set off alarms after recent events. In my friends case, dosage-increase = seizure one day later. Even with slow-release, 450mg in one day was too much. Just tryin' to tell a sister to be careful and definitely see a doc.
