Couch Freaks Boogie

Recommended Posts

I waws at the Couch Freaks boogi over the weekend. And I had a great time, I think there were about 5,000 jumps made all together. As a whole it was a good experience for my first boogie. The only bad part was on Thursday afternoon I was on a Otter load and I landed near our campsite and looked up in time to watch the guy in the group behind me hook himself in. Fortunatley I did not see the actual impact (because he landed behind a tent about twenty feet away. But I will never forget the sound he made. He hit so hard his helmet was cracked, hislegs were obviously broken. I thought I had just seen someone kill himself. The good news is he is still alive, but from what I had heard he has several broken bones, both legs are severly damaged. I believe this particular jumper was from Kansas. If anyone knows who I am talking about please tell him that all the Hutchinson jumpers wish him the best!

Yes Matt was a jumper with us, he was my jumpmaster and friend. We are really unsure what happen at that moment exactly and prob will never know. He was taken to Ft Dodge hospital, then was transported to Des Moines. There he had heart surgery because of a torn aorta but is in full recovery. He will be up in Iowa for another 4-6 weeks while he recovers. There is no brain damage or loss of feeling anywhere and he is going to be ok. I appreciate the concerns of all and especially would like to thank the 2 emt's that helped Matt out after he landed. I couldn't pull myself together enough to be helpful. I never said thanks but I would like to do so, if you were one of the 2 guys who took care of him, god bless you both! you saved our friends life and I'm sure he is very greatful just like we all are.

Best wishes to Matt! Good to hear he is doing ok. I was working in registration when it happened and seeing peoples' faces who saw him on the ground, well, it made me pretty sick to my stomach. It sounded really bad, but it is good to hear that he's coming along.

FYI, final jump numbers were around 5,880. Boogie high is 6,200. We would have beat it if it wasn't for the crappy winds and the wind hold on Sunday! :P
