PLFKING 4 #29 August 30, 2002 I don't see it either. Not to offend, but the first couple of times i saw it, i thought it was animation....something you might see lurking in the background of a Frank Frazzetta painting (not sure of the name -- the guy that used to do the artwork on the old Molly Hatchet album covers....) kallend 2,027 #33 August 30, 2002 QuoteQuoteThere are a disproportianately high number of engineers that jump in the Bay Area. I think that it's cause of the high number of tech jobs up here. Yes, but I would wager that if you took the national averages of careers from say, the U.S. Labor Department and the USPA that they'd be within a couple of percent of one another. My further guess is that they'd be skewed -slightly- higher toward the USPA only because engineers should have a slightly higher amount of disposable income than the national average and therefore more able to jump than say, a textile worker. From USPA... Engineers win! 9.7% Engineers 8.1% Military 7.6% Building Trades 7.2% Business management 6.8% Computer Industry 6.6% Sales/Marketing 6.1% Medical Field 5.8% Administration 4.0% Factory Worker 4.0% Law Enforcement 3.8% Skydiving 3.3% Students 3.2% Pilots (Non Military) 2.3% Retired 2.1% Self-employed 2.0% Auto Mechanic 1.9% Education 1.6% Entertainment 1.6% Emergency services 1.5% Arts 1.5% Maintenance 1.5% Truck Driver 1.4% Aviation Industry 1.2% Athletics 1.1% Aircraft Mechanic 1.1% Science Field 1.0% Journalism/Writing 1.0% Hospitality

happythoughts 0 #42 August 30, 2002 I think people are overlooking the obvious. It is the cost of jumping. I have noticed that there are a lot of guys who are in the computer industry and a lot of women in health care. I noticed the same thing among scuba divers. Expensive sports require jobs that can pay for it.
skydiverbrian 0 #43 August 30, 2002 QuoteExpensive sports require jobs that can pay for it. Not necessarily true. I work in EMS and we get paid shit. There are plenty of people I know who jump way more than me and they don't get paid jack either. It's all about lifestyle. That's enough to power a small car, or about 60 powerfull electrical drills. Power = speed x force say you weigh 70 kg with equipment, that is roughly 700 Newton that is supported by air at terminal velocity (since you are no longer accelerating) Now, at roughly 60 meters/second that gives 700 x 60 = 42000 Watts, or 42 kilowatts. But I forget - most Americans work in these insane units, feet, pounds, inches and horsepower. And they consider a car that delivers anything under 100 kilowatts "tiny" Ok, I deserve to get shot, or at least tied up and tickled for an hour for this post -- ZZZzzzz....
