morris 0 #1 June 29, 2013 Is there any rule of thumb regarding the lifespan of risers? Taking the type into account? Does the "low drag option" (folded and sewed for swooping) make any difference? How about the lifespan of softlinks? Thanks!
Deyan 36 #2 June 29, 2013 You'll get 12 opinions from 10 riggers on this Here's mine. When is time to replace your lines ( Spectra 725,Vectran 750,HMA 700, Dacron 600) change your risers( if type 17 and you have an RSL ), soft links and PC ( if F111 ) At that point you'll probably have 500-700 jumps on all this. For some people this might be overreacting, but that's what I'll do on my gear. With that said, I've seen mini risers with 2000 + jumps and they didn't look "that bad" I've seen soft links with 2 relines, and they didn't break during the third one. As I said, different riggers different opinions "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
