Allmain risersmanufactured by Velocity Sports Equipment(VSE) BACKGROUND: Severalmain risers have been found in the field with frayed/partially cutlocking loops(the white type 2A loop). The amount and location of damage on the loops varies, leading VSE to conclude theremay be several contributing factors. A loop failure can resultin an out ofsequencemain release and reserve deployment which can cause an entanglement. Due to this danger, VSE feels allmain risersshould be inspected according to the following Service Bulletin. WHOCANINSPECT: Any FAA certified senior ormaster parachute rigger orforeign equivalent. INSPECTIONPROCEDURE: 1. Remove the cutaway handle / yellow cutaway cablesfromthe rig and disconnectthe risers. 2. Closely check the locking loopsfor damage. a. See “WHAT TOLOOK FOR:NORMAL WEARORDAMAGE” to determining ifthe locking loop shows normal wear orsigns of damage. If in doubt, please contact VSE. b. If damage isfound,the rigmust be repaired before it can be jumped. See “RESOLUTION” c. If normal wearisfound,the rig can be jumped, but VSE suggests periodic checksmoving forward. pchapman 279 #4 July 9, 2013 They don't mention a cause, other than to say that the location of the wear can vary, and that there may be various contributing factors. So one infers that there might be some roughness on grommets on risers and cutaway cable housing ends, and thus on some grommet dies? KellyF 16 #5 July 9, 2013 There's a few contributing factors, which is why it has taken as long as it has to issue a service bulletin, and why we're essentially dealing with the cutomers on a case by case basis. We don't feel that this is a grommet tooling issue, since the sharp edges that we've seen on the cutaway housing grommets have been formed over the course of many jumps, in at least 3 different locations on the grommets. BUT the wear issue is not only caused by sharp edges on the cutaway housing grommets, so please inspect your risers and get in touch with VSE if you have any concerns Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Sounds like an evolving issue that we'll eventually hear more about, something where the specifics haven't been on skydivers' radar before. What differs for VSE risers compared to most others is the AMP fitting that integrates the grommet in the riser to the hard housings in the risers. cherokee 0 #7 July 20, 2013 Greetings-- Wow, I just jumped onto the gear forums,and got the update on the vse risers, Those look very scary and am glad you gave us a heads up. To top it off I just received my new infinity last week, just waitin on my canopies to get here to hook it up. What I,m really trying to say is that I,ve encountered that problem before with my other infinity, but nothin to that extreme, I'll definitely keep my eye on this. Certainly don't want to have to worry about this while I'm turning onto final.
