dreamsville 0 #1 August 21, 2002 I have to check FAR 105 again, but I'd like to do a jump on this island when I go there this weekend. However, I don't know anyone who'd take me up even if I could get clearance to make the jump (and where I'd get permission to land). In any case, we'd need to be careful, since this is the second busiest airport in the state of Massachussetts behind Logan Int'l in Boston. The island is about 6 miles wide by 12 miles long, I think. Has anyone ever tried to set this kind of thing up before? Please help. Gratefully, HarryI don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
quade 4 #2 August 21, 2002 I belive that in order to get your paperwork in order with the FAA, you'll need to complete the following limerick; I wanted to jump in Nantucket . . .quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

billvon 3,073 #6 August 21, 2002 You'll have to file a NOTAM to fulfill FAA requirements, and will also have to get permission of the landowner to fulfill legal requirements. If you know someone there, and can jump into his property, then that works well. If you want to do a demo on the airport, talk to someone who has organized demos before, and find out the best way to approach the airport management. Sometimes it's through a local FSDO, sometimes you can just talk to the tower. If they don't know you and haven't worked with you before your chances are slim. LawnDart21 0 #7 August 21, 2002 The only way to legally jump on to Nantucket is as Bill Von indicated, by filig a NOTAM. Unfortuanetly you won't be able to find a jump modified plane to jump out of, as there are only a hand full of jump Cessnas in New England that could be used. you'd have to contact a local DZ (Skydive Pepperell, Boston Providence, SD New England, or Jumptown perhaps.) Assuming you could file a Notam in time, get approval from the islanders, and find a plane, then you would also have to pay for tac time, etc, for the plane. It's a very involved process. I assume the question was posed asking essentially if there was any DZ type operation on or near the island, and much to our disappointment up here, there isn't. Believe me we would LOVE to be able to jump in there! As someone mentioned ACK is a very busy airport, and I doubt the islanders would be too accepting of us dropping in unexpectedly. If you do manage to find a way to jump, treat it like a base jump, as in once you land, RUN and HIDE. LOL In all seriousness though, if you have a legitamet interest in jumping into Nantucket, go to www.airadventures.com. They are a demo team here in New England and have done demos on to the island every year or so for July 4th, etc. Email Tommy LaRochelle (email on website) and he can give you the exact answer that you are looking for as far as "how to" get in the air over Nantucket. Best of luck, hope that helps. -- My other ride is a RESERVE.

JamesNahikian 0 #9 August 22, 2002 Harry, you may want to investigate the helicopters that visit the island. I've struck deals with chopper pilots at rescue bases and tourist operations outside the U.S. such as BOHAG in Switzerland. howardwhite 6 #10 August 22, 2002 In addition to the FAA stuff, in Massachusetts this would be a demo jump and you need something called a "Mass. waiver" issued by the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission. This is not particularly hard to get, but there 's no way you could get one by this weekend. The Air Adventures team made one there last weekend, but they are all pro-rated. dreamsville 0 #11 August 22, 2002 I figured that. I will try to see if there is a way to do it for next summer. I emailed Tommy of the demo team today, looking ahead to the future.
