konradptr 0 #1 August 14, 2002 My girlfriend made up this shirt in photoshop, and had a local shop heat-press it into a t-shirt. Thought it was pretty funny, since the parody stemmed from a Saturday, when one KingAir gave 82 tandems the experience of a lifetime. Problem was, as is often the case, that there were about two slots for fun jumpers on every load. But I am sure that the DZO over here at MileHi will appreciate it with his keen sense of humor... konradptr 0 #3 August 14, 2002 That sucks about Vegas. I took my rigs up there thinking it would be like anywhere else. I knew the area where it was at, so I headed out there, and called for better directions once I got near. The guy that answered the phone started with the speil about tandem this, and tandem that... After about 30 seconds, I was able to jump in and told him that I was an experienced jumper with my own gear, etc... It was funny how they didn't have any open spaces on any loads for the rest of the day.... Funny how that happened... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... Beeron 0 #8 August 14, 2002 Hey Peter, You guys should think about coming out to Brush. We've got a fast King Air to take you up to 13.5 (and sometimes more). There's usually no more than 30 tandems on any given day. The best part is that Brush has a really laid back, fun ambiance...whereas I know Mile-Hi has that "business" feel to it. Come on out! We'll jump during the day and throw back plenty o' cold ones in the evening! B~
konradptr 0 #9 August 14, 2002 Thanks Roland, I think I might take you up on the offer. I've been to Brush a couple times this year, and often go to Calhan also. Brush is much more friendly than Mile-Hi, and everyone there is friendly and laid-back. I was there for the Otter boogie a couple months ago also. The problem that I have is that there aren't too many freeflyers out there, and I can only jump my Birdman suit by myself so many times in a day. I actually did my first AFF jump out there in Brush, since I didn't want to do a tandem first, and Mile-Hi insisted that I do one before AFF. Let me know if there are any more freeflyers out there, I'll make the drive and camp out there over teh weekend... Peter ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... CanuckInUSA 0 #10 August 14, 2002 I am a new Mile-Hi(gher) but once I get my "A" license (should be anytime within the next 1-3 weeks) I will have to make the occasional road trip to Brush. Of course Mile-Hi is pretty close to me here in Boulder whereas Brush is far away. Hmmm ... konradptr 0 #11 August 14, 2002 My problem exactly. My parents live on the way from my house to Longmont, so I can stop by and say hi, but also have a good excuse to get out of there quick... Longmont is nearby, and I would have to camp out Saturday night if I went out to Brush... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... Beeron 0 #12 August 14, 2002 Hey Steve...you don't need to wait til' you get your A, come on down now. We've got plenty of coaches available that'll help ya finish up your prof. card. Everyone seems to think that Brush is sooo far away, but I live in the very southern part of Denver and it only takes me about an hour and 15 minutes to get there. I usually go up Friday evening and stay til' Sunday night and have two fun-filled days of jumping and two fun-filled nights of partying with a bunch of great people. And Peter, I'd definitely go do some FF jumps with ya. I can sit pretty well (stable and on heading)....still trying to get a good head down, but it seems to always turn into back flying. I'll look foward to meeting you guys! B~
CanuckInUSA 0 #13 August 14, 2002 What's the rig rental situation up at Brush? I have ordered a new Wings container from Square One, but it's going to take 6-8 weeks (probably even more) before I can jump my own rig and in that time I have to rent. At Mile-Hi it's not uncommon for me to be manifested on a load only to be bumped because my rental rig has been confiscated for a student. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Beeron 0 #14 August 14, 2002 There's about 6 rental rigs there. A Sabre 170, Sabre 190, Spectre 190, A couple PD 190's and a Triathalon 220. Most are in Vector containers and have either Raven or PD reserves. All are CYPRESS equipped. Any of those suit your fancy? B~
CanuckInUSA 0 #15 August 14, 2002 I would say that most of them are too small for me (I weigh 205 lbs) and am a novice skydiver. But I would be interested in trying out the Triathlon 220 as ironically that is exactly what I'm going to be jumping on once my new rig is delivered. So maybe some time in September I should come out for a weekend (keeping in mind that my jumping time may be limited due to the availability of the rig) to have some fun. jose 0 #16 August 16, 2002 that is the best t shirt i have ever seen, how can i get one? i want to wear it when jeff is in a rotten mood. maybe it'll push him over the edge and he'll eventually get that otter we were promised months ago, remember? until then, its a now call for load 11 , i have to go manifest for load 22. 3 jumps a day should probably be my limit. rest stop bro
konradptr 0 #17 August 16, 2002 I think we are talking about different dropzones. The Jeff that I know is a really nice guy, never in a bad mood, and likes to help girls with big racks as much as newbie guys. Just kidding... And as far as the Otter, WHERE IS THE OTTER??? I would also like to invite everyone to the 7th Annual 2002 Mile-Hi Tandem Boogie, which started January 1, and ends December 31, 2002... Yes, the joys of living in Denver... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
jose 0 #18 August 18, 2002 i hear that todays tandem boogie went pretty well. 80 tandems, is that correct? almost eclipsing the record of 82. with numbers like that i don't understand why there is no otter. probably because all the fun jumpers are leaving to other dz's like brush that actually allow fun jumpers on loads. there soon won't be a need for an otter or something else with a larger capacity, just a bigger cockpit to make room for jeff's head. WFFC 1 #20 August 19, 2002 Jose- If you detest management management at a particular establishment, then don't go back. There are three large, quality DZ's in the state, each with their own personality that fit many different people. Denver Skydivers recently changed ownership and from what I've heard it was definately for the best. Yes, I do work at Mile Hi and I coordinated the effort the day that we did 82 tandems. As a sidenote, there were 6-8 experience people there that day as I recall. Worst case scenerio, they had to wait a load or two to get on. Students are what ultimately pay the bills at any DZ. With as whiney as skydivers are, I sometimes wonder why they don't just do what Michael Hawkes did and just tell the experience people to screw off. Spoke to Jeff last night and asked about the TwOtter search. It seems that a couple DZO's are wanting to get rid of their TwOtters and get a Caravan or King air to get rid of the headache of the experience people and go to the money maker students. Jose, I'm not sure who you are as your profile was recently created and it contains no identifying info. There are several DZ's in the state so vote with your dollars and go where you're happy. christoofar 0 #22 August 19, 2002 I agree totally about Konrad's post. If you're not going to do a tandem, Vegas doesn't want you; don't even bother going there to wait for a load--you aren't going on one. If you don't have the time/money to do Eloy, AZ... you are better off just going to Jean or just do the wind tunnel across from the Stardust--which blows. I wouldn't even bother taking a rig the next time I go to Vegas anymore unless I know in advance I am getting a rental car /w unlimited miles (woohoo Perris!)... ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES!
