What was your worst injury from skydiving?

Recommended Posts

Besides the two pinched discs in my neck that cause my left index fingertip to tingle I would have to say my worst injury is going from making 48k a year to making 10 dollars per jump AP (after packer). however, I am now living my dream of being a professional cameraflyer, so I sleep pretty well now, can't afford to do alot, but I do get say that I have the coolest job there is ( my opinion of course) .

August 2000...3rd jump off student status, did a low turn from about 30' up and plowed myself into the runway. Fortunately, my ass took the brunt of it, but it was purple for a month. I still have a lump of scar tissue on the right cheek. I also broke my toe, my nose and had a ton of road rash on my face, hands, shoulder, and knee. The swelling in my hands was so bad, I couldn't put them below my heart for a week. I also have a permanant black line on my nose called a traumatic tattoo from the roadrash. On top of all that, I had to pay the dz $600 for the damage to the jumpsuit, altimeter, helmet and rig that I caused. A lesson learned!

Oooh yeah... the purple ass. I hadn't noticed mine until i was coming out of the shower the next day (doped up on pain killers) and my wife freaked... The bruise had to be eight inches across...

I am with you Chuck and Betsy! After hurting my tail bone I learned a valuable lesson. Now I know that if I can not run it out I PLF it and not land on my ass. After a month sitting on a donut because of the pain I will try to never land on my ass again. Ouch!:(

Mine's 1198:1, due to taking another skydiver to the E/R after she sprained both ankles during a tarmac landing. I try to be conservative enough to avoid having to go on my own behalf.

The gal in question is jumping again now.
I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane.

My AFF Lvl 1:
The zipper on my jumpsuit decides to take a break and whips the shit out of me ankle for 10k feet.

First Solo:
was to far back in the door and did a super man exit. Sence i am so long when i got into the wind the lower half of my legs where still inside the plane. The wind cought me and slammed my left ankle into the door frame on the way out. Didn't know it was bleeding until i got on the ground, took my suit off, and noticed that my sock was bright red!:oB|

Most painful: Dislocated all my toes while running out a landing in tall grass, put my foot in a gopher hole. Grounded 1 week.

Longest time out: Broken ankle, canopy caught a tree limb landing in a small yard. Grounded 8 weeks.

Broke a few bones in my foot reaching for a landing, one of these days I'll learn how to land. Said fuck it, wrapped it up kept jumping.

My worst skydiving injury was riding a bicycle at 30mph and started to pass some drunk skydivers in a golf cart (damn, those golf carts) at this past WFFC a couple weeks ago.

Are you the one that everyone said died?! Then I was talking to your friend... umm.. Adam maybe.. he told me the "he died rumor" but that you were fine. So then a few days go by, and someone tells me again "Hey, did you hear that guy that wrecked his biked died!?" I said "No he didn't, I talked to a friend of his and the guy's fine" to which they reply "Yeah, he was fine for 2 or 3 days, then he died!"

Yes. I know about this AND I saw it here on dz.com but I decided not to say anything (although I was furious when my friends told me). ;)

I just wound up ignoring it and I'll live with the fact that I was the first "fatality" at Rantoul! :P

One of the guys from our little troup from Texas fell off a golf cart the following day and got a mild concussion, the same day a girl was being carted off in the ambulance for the same thing.

Go figure. Golf carts are killers. Watch out for them. Next time I'm taking my convertible to the convention! F those carts!

P.S. This nasty rumor made it ALL the way to my home DZ and also to my parents!!! >:(. Do you know how much money was wasted on cell phones talking them down off the walls??!?!?!!? G-dammit.>:(

4th or 5th jump I put my hands out during a PLF. The cracked wrist bones only kept me down a couple weeks.

7th jump I did a forward loop on a SL exit. My legs got caught up in the lines of my deploying main, the opening shock left me with a black and blue leg and a nasty scar(healed after a year).

Also suffered from Muenkel tunnel syndrome last March.

Currently I'm down with something wrong with my right ear. Don't know if jumping caused it or just made it worse.

Right now I'm wondering if something like hang gliding, while probably more dangerous, might not be easier on the body.
