Waves of Golden Knights are landing again in my front yard

I liked the malfunction demo they did at WFFC. I hadn't seen that one before. The guy sucked it pretty damn low I thought!!! If you see Aaron tell him I said hello. Tall skinny guy....blonde hair.

James,

Did you bother to go out? I thought it was cool, too, especially since the jets are flying by my place as I type. I would have gone out to jump today had the weather not been so socked in earlier. Will probably be at Skydive Chicago Sunday.

I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane.

I did the show at North Avenue beach in 1992. The weather was dreary, and we did a hop and pop from 2500 FT. I also remember seeing the people watching from the windows of the Hancock building across the road as I spiralled down to find my place in the stack.

BTW - the Golden Knights use red smoke because many moons ago it was determined that red is the color that provides the best visibility for the crowd. White is actually better, but white smoke canisters burn way too hot to use on a bracket strapped to one's ankle.

The intentional cutaway is always a crowd pleaser. We narrators would set it up this way: "If you've ever wondered what would happen if a parachute did not work, then watch closely - you're about to find out." When I was there, it was done from a specific deployment altitude for each individual depending on their fall rate. The cutaway canopy (then a round canopy) was opened for a count of 10 thousand. One side was then released for a count of ten thousand, with the jumper falling mostly on his back to avoid eating smoke. The demonstrator then cuts the canopy away completely for a five second freefall, then opens the "real" main canopy. From there it's same-as-it-ever-was.

On this one they did kind of a partial bag lock. Some of the canopy was out but it was just enough so that it was easy for the crowd to see. He was still falling face to earth. The guy must have ridden it for close to 10 seconds. Cut it...fell another 3-4 and then dumped his main. I thought he was quite low but I wouldn't doubt if he dumped the "real" main at around 2000 maybe slighly less. I'm just used to watching people dump at 3 so anything less looks mighty low. Plus....he was almost straight over head. That goofs with your perception.

I biked out to north beach today, but I missed the knights. No biggie, I've seen them before and jumped with most...

The Blue Angels were cool to see, but to be honest I like small plane aerobatics better. This reminds me... I always thought a Blue Angel was something drunken guys did around a canpfire...?

I ended up biking home... put my feet into a bucket of ice for a few hours... Ankle injuries SUCK.
