Buy my Jumpsuit or get my A License taken care of? hmmmmmmm

Recommended Posts

I have two choices here pay for my new custom tony suit or pay for the rest of the coach jumps and get my card filled out. What would you do if you had only 1 and a half more paychecks coming for now?

Jump first, suit later. BUT, the jumpsuit may become important depending upon your body shape (heavy vs floaty, etc.). For free fly, it's a whole 'nother thing, of course.

You may even find that your flying skills may be challenged and improved more without a suit for now, since some of us use the suits to keep us more in our comfortable flying range, not to mention wearing lead.

I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane.

Get the A and find a cheep used Jumpsuit for now. Or borrow someones old jumpsuit. Are you doing freefly or belly fly mostly? Get a sewing machine and sew your own suit;).....

Yeah, get the A. If you come to Byron you can borrow my Tony Suit just like Sebazz did:P

I am really resisting the urge to flame you mercilessly. I am judgemental (I try to hide it) of fashion jumpers. Buy all that fancy sh*t if you can afford it, but make sure you are a competent jumper too. If you have $1000, go ahead and buy a $300 jumpsuit if you're getting $700 worth of jump tickets. I've been around this guy in a cool gripper suit and I ask him "Hey, you want to do a 4 way?" "No, thanks, not right now" Turns out he hangs out all day in the suit, does one SOLO, drinks beer and goes home. He doesn't need the suit. THE FREAKING GRIPS ARE FOR FRIENDS TO GRAB!

A jumpsuit was the VERY last thing I bought. Only when it became BLATANTLY obvious that my flying skills had progressed to the point where a jumpsuit would be an asset and not a crutch. I had a rig, alti, helmet, Time Out, 4-5 pair of goggles, and maybe even my camera. I got the camera and jumpsuit close to the same time. A rig is important. A jumpsuit really isn't. However, it will only help you if you pick out "Jump clothes" and jump in the same thing every time. That will let you learn to fly your body and not have to constantly adjust to new amounts of drag.

i forgot to mention the fact that almost every student jumpsuit i touch either rips a seem or blows a zipper open in freefall:o I need my own suit so i can learn to fly and not have to worry about my jumpsuit blowing open in the middle of a track!(thats happened twice now). On the other hand if i don't get my A then i am pretty much stuck doing coach jumps and solos for a while.

Hmm, I live by a different set of rules than most from reading this thread. I'm not from a uspa dz so I don't worry about that license stuff. I visit boogies. But they only require you to be A or B qualified(ie. WFFC). I have over 100 jumps now and only see the license as a technicality. I'm going to try to just get my c or d when the time is right- instead of paying processing fees each time I want to upgrade. But then again I jump at a self regulated -non uspa DZ.

What are the rules at other dz's?

I say just jump.

at most USPA dz's if you don't have your a A or above you can't jump with anyone but a coach/instructor or yourself.

If that were the case in my situation, I would have gotten it a long time ago! You will learn more from jumping with other people about your fall rate than doing solo's in style with a new jump suit. Besides there are lots of cheapies out there that will get you by for the time being.

Word up!

All your jumps should not have to "be" with a coach, at least just have a coach in the plane. Besides, if you are that strapped, there should be an instructor around to work you through some of the license. Heck, I'll be in Lompoc this weekend. Bring your card, buy a couple of jumps for yourself and a couple of beers for me and we'll see what you have done. The only jumps you need to have someone there is the 100 foot to dock and the A-license check dive. Right??

Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
