bbarnhouse 0 #27 August 13, 2002 Ok lets get this straight...... I live at a DZ, I live IN a trailer, I drive a POS...does this make me a "Low Place" person? I also own 2 houses in other states, 2 cars elsewhere, have a portfolio and a 401k Oh and let us not forget 8 years of higher edumacation...........so my last 2 statements are..........do not judge a book by its cover, and if you do.....then sc&%$ you and the horse you rode in on.*thinks one can change their name but not their spots

happythoughts 0 #32 August 13, 2002 I totally agree with diverdriver. Don't let your pursuit of the opposite sex mess up your skydiving. My packer is a world champion skydiver and I respect her ability tremendously. I hope to get some coaching from her one day! Some people do the "who-I-talk-to = who-I-want-to-date" method of meeting people. It really limits you. There are guys who only want to meet/talk to/hang with/hug pretty girls. There are girls who only want to hang with rich guys. Too bad. You miss some very cool people and don't meet some very good skydivers.

Pammi 0 #34 August 13, 2002 QuoteFor me, it's a funny twist of events. I am working hard now and making good money so one day, I can retire, buy a nice trailer and live on the dz, skydiving all day. That's Merrick and I. We want to be in a place when the kids are grown in about 10 years to be able to just live however we want..preferably in a RV we can travel from DZ to DZ in ..working as we go if necessary. We've already told the kids they'll have to 'find us' to visit us after they're in college One thing I've learned is things can change from day-to-day. One day I was out-of-work and the next I was not only hired but working. I was almost ready to sell my rig to help get us by until we found jobs just the night before!! One minute Merrick had the best job and I was working crap stuff, the next the IT market went to hell-in-a-handbasket and I have the good job. Who cares? It's life. Lots of stuff is going to happen between now and the end. I've had really good financial times, and really bad ... it's all cycles except for the very rich. What's important is that you're happy with who you are and who you're with :) Gawd, that's about as philosophical as I can stand to get this early in the morning! Skyvixen 0 #35 August 13, 2002 I don't think living in a trailer on a DZ makes u a "Low Place Person" I never said anything like that. I would love to have a RV and go from DZ to DZ. sangiro 26 #37 August 13, 2002 Skyvixen, I see you only registered today.... Some of the folks around here have been on this forum for years. This is a pretty opinionated bunch, they understand each other's "characters" and the community has it's own brand of humor. I think you're reading a lot of people wrong and in the process they're probably missing your point as well. Telling people to "relax" and "grow up" when it's your first day posting to these forums is probably not the best way to go. Remember, fools rush in where angels fear to tread. It's great to have you around. You'll learn a lot and I hope we'll learn a lot from you. Peace. Safe swoops Sangiro

"Don't get me wrong" is an engraved invitation to get you wrong. The biggest drawback to DZ living that I can see is rain. You can't make $500 a day packing parachutes when it's raining. You're also going to have to pay $500 a month or so for your own health insurance. That's not any different than the life of a tradesman, though. I'd be concerned having my kids around the DZ all the time, because there's a lot of recreational drug use when Aip ops are done, and plenty of foul language when I'm not there scowling at my friends to substitute "frick" for "F*ck" when my twins are on site. Please remember this, if you're talking about marriage, the person you marry now is not the person you are going to be married to 20 years from now. They will have a different job, they will look different, their attitude will change, they may even change political parties! Honesty, hard work, the ability to sacrifice for the betterment of the family. If you find those things, you are set for life. Regardless of needing to explain "packing" as a job to condescending friends and relatives. JP P.S. My wife owns a trailer she won from Bob Barker on "The Price is Right" in the early 80's. It's not a group plan or an HMO. 47.88 a month. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project
 jfields 0 #47 August 13, 2002 Scott, It all depends on the coverage. I'd be curious to see what it covers. If you are happy with the policy, then it is right for you. My family gets insurance through my wife's employer. If we were to buy equivalent coverage ourselves, without the group rate and subsidy, it would cost over $500/month for the three of us. But it includes an amazing amount of care. For my wife's pregnancy; including sonograms, regular checkups, prescriptions, 6 days in the hospital, a c-section surgery, lots of good drugs, post-op care, and all the pediatric appointments since then, our total out of pocket expense has been under $100. Other issues that vary tremendously by policy include pre-authorization of care, range of providers, exceptions, care cost ceilings, etc.
 ScottishJohn 25 #48 August 13, 2002 A lucky Bar steward ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers
 FliegendeWolf 0 #49 August 13, 2002 QuoteI am currently paying for my own health insurance (damn temp job) and it is just under $50 a month.Wow!
