nicknitro71 0 #51 August 16, 2002 This was my first year at WFFC and it was a blast. Although I don't buy the jet crap. IMO they long had known it was not coming and they said it was to attract more people. Then at the very last moment they told us the Jet was not coming but we could use the ticket to jump out a fast C-130! I beg your pardon! So, not to refund all the jet plane tickets they came out with the fast C-130 horse crap. I still manage to do a 200+ mph jump out the CASA on Friday evening with the $ 18 ticket and got my money back from the jet ticket. Honestly, the Jet was not my priority but it is not right what they did. I hope next year they won't play those stupid games.Memento Audere Semper
PhreeZone 20 #52 August 16, 2002 If you remember.. they did'nt anounce the jet was coming until only about 2-3 weeks before the start and the same with the C-130. Most people that were planning on coming to WFFC already had their time off work so the jet did'nt influence them at all. I'll admit I was disapointed listening to Don make the annoucement... but now that I know Michael, I trust that the contract he was presented was enough to convince him the jet would be there and there for get put on the webpage. My only question is if the Insurance was to expire on August 2.. why did'nt the renewal process begain about a month before it to insure there would be no glitches? I could care less because one plane does not make or break a boggie.. the people do and all the people were great at WFFC this year so I'll be back next year!Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
WFFC 1 #53 August 16, 2002 QuoteMy only question is if the Insurance was to expire on August 2.. why did'nt the renewal process begain about a month before it to insure there would be no glitches? It probably did start long before the expiration of the policy and didn't become an issue until Kalitta Air said, "oh, by the way". The Convention was a success without it and the C-130 was a fun plane to leap out of. Short history on the C-130: Delivered to the Austrailian government from Lockheed in 1958 and it saw service as a military transport, including service in Vietnam. It is one of the only C-130s left with 3-bladed props and the only privately owned C-130 in the U.S. It's new paint job (debuted at the WFFC) was $35,000 and insurance...Well, sit down...pre-Sept 11 - $75,000...post-Sept 11 - $185,000. Congrats to Emily and Brian of the Cherry Air crew for making their first skydives. PhreeZone 20 #54 August 16, 2002 Another few side facts on the C-130 from the crew chief that I shared a few beers with one night... The C-130's the US military sells off have to be fully converted to firebombers before the military will allow the owner to turn a prop. The C-130 at the WFFC is the only 3 blade prop C-130a flying still. The rest have been converted to 4 prop or scrapped. The C-130b's that have Tri-blade props are still flying I guess. Thats the only civilian owned C-130 that is in the US. The C-130 burns about 4000 pounds of fuel an hour while flying.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
freeflir29 0 #55 August 16, 2002 I thought it was great fun!!! I walked over after my jump and shook a couple of the guys hands and said Thanks. After 50 or more S/L exits from the door and tail gate it was certainly nice to get some free fall out of one.

Don't hold this as fact, but this is what I was told - not by WFFC staffers though: Civilains are not allowed by the FAA to jump out of a C-130 unless it is for the purpose of 'making a movie', in our case, MartiniShotFilms. That was definately the funniest waiver i ever had to sign in order to jump. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
