Foreign Films.....

Recommended Posts

I'm not usually a big fan of foreign films but I saw one that kicks ass!! I was flipping through the satellite last night and came across the original French version of "Le Femme Nakita" It kicked the crap out of "Point of no Return" with Bridgett Fonda. The actors fit the parts so much better then the Hollywood version. If you get a chance check it out. Plus...I could listen to Anna Pallaud speak french all day long!!!! B|

Some of us poor folk don't have satellite or cable....

On a side note don't waste your money at the movies to see Signs. I went last night and was very disappointed.:(

I kind of liked it myself. Bit slow in the beginning when they're developing the characters (particularly Mel Gibbson's) but better than many so called scary movies that stick with the Hollywood formula. Hollow Man stands out as a really bad example.

dooooood,

you wanna see a nutty foreign film, take a look at 'Man Bites Dog'

It is french, well, belgian actually, but despite this, it is very good. black & white and subtitled, but it rocks!
it won an award at the 1996 cannes film festival. it has disturbed many of my friends so beware - if anyone has seen it, or you watch it, bear in mind that i told my friends that it was real, and they believe that to this day. that thought keeps me chuckling to myself all the time (people think i should have been in the film as a result). i realise that all of this ranting is absolute nonsense if you have never seen the film, so hopefully you will now be curious enough to do so.

Other ones to watch
Delicatessen (French I think)
Better than Chocolate (Spanish)
Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Those were produced by Film Four which is the UK production company that also did Four weddings and a Funeral.
Seven Samurai (original Japanese movie that The Magnificent Seven was based on)
Prescilla Queen of the Desert (Australian)
Just a few off the top of my head
I liked Run Lola Run

If I know so much how did you beat me out for the lead role. Oh wait....it was your enthusiasm. I remember the casting director saying that......:D

for sure quade :)that script contained so many parallels to society, it made for some awesome conversation afterwards. You had everything, the aggressive people, the smart people, the passive people, the seemingly simple people, everything. I loved that show.
On another note, Pi was kick-ass as well.
OH!
And this one:
Donnie Darko Has anyone else seen this????!!!!
AWESOME

If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me?

I also loved Pi (the ending did give me a headache) but I'm pretty sure that doesn't qualify as a foreign film for us south of your boarder. ;)

BTW, I have another great little indie film you might want to check out called Timecode. Shot continously and in real-time with 4 DV cameras and then displayed as a 4-way split screen. You'll need to watch it several times before you see everything.

I have only seen two foreign films that I liked....Snatch and Trainspotting.

They are foreign....right??Unsure

not for me there not.

I usually think of foreign films as being in a different language.

One of my favourites is Dobermann.
About french gang who rob banks, more violent than reservior dogs

haha Timecode! Cool, saw it in the theater, nice mental workout trying to follow everything :S
But seriously, find and watch Donnie Darko.
The trailer is here: www.donniedarko.com
click the mini window and check it out. The actual site itself is pretty sweet too. Take some time and click around in it. It's got levels, and alot of sweet flash work. Sweet in a way unlike that previous flash offering with the giant shmeebs.
