gravitysurf808 0 #1 August 2, 2002 With the exception of 1995-1998 when I actually lived at the DZ; I've never lived within 30 miles of my frequented DZ. I've also made the trip home from the DZ way too many times after a 'few too many' around the campfire only to turn around and drive back at 8am the next morning. My question is: What does everyone do each weekend? Do you stay on Saturday night and party at the DZ then drive home and return next day? Or, do you crash at the DZ and make it a killer (safe) weekend? (gravity- you gotta learn how to do that 'poll' thingie)
skymut 0 #2 August 2, 2002 Unfortunately, the closest I have lived to a DZ is about 20 miles, and that was only for 5 months. My average is probably around 40 miles, and currently I live 60 miles (one way) to a dz, (not my home dz...I live around 70 miles from it)...I need to learn to fly (which I plan on this fall). I rarely stay at the dz, but from time to time I do. Never have been much of a party-er , but I like to hang out and visit with folks . Currently, the drive home is a real pain, but my in-laws live half way, sooo...my wife can visit with the fam, and I can make multiple trips to the dz. Jimbo 0 #3 August 2, 2002 Got me a tent and I stay at the DZ unless a better offer comes along. I live between 45 minutes and 1 hour away, it's too much of a pain in the ass to leave on Saturday and come right back on Sunday. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Skypeg1 0 #10 August 2, 2002 Since I'm 400 mi. from my home DZ, I tend to stay over. LOL Actually, I've only been twice for 6 jumps total. But even though I have family 60 mi. away (hey, in So. Cal. that's just around the corner) I stay over. I'll probably keep doing that for a while. After I get my license I'll start jumping closer to home, but for now this works (cheap people, nice beer--or the other way around--I forget!). tigra 0 #11 August 2, 2002 I live about 90 miles from my home dz. When I first started, I would go home Saturday nights only to turn around and drive back on Sunday, even if the weather was bad! Then I spent an entire season tenting it, and that got old. So finally, I broke down and got a trailer to keep at the dz. Then I got a bigger trailer, and then I got a bigger trailer......... coconutmonkey 0 #16 August 2, 2002 I used to live 45 min from the DZ, but found that between work and the DZ, my apartment had become a very expensive storage facility. Moved to a trailer on the DZ 9 mos ago. No regrets (except the beer disappears from the fridge alot faster). ernokaikkonen 0 #18 August 2, 2002 >My question is: >What does everyone do each weekend? >Do you stay on Saturday night and party at the DZ then drive > home and return next day? I live about 40km from my DZ. I try to get there sometime during friday(tends to be difficult since I don't have a car and the DZ is in the middle of nowhere). I spend the weekend and leave sunday night. I'm having trouble remembering what I did when I didn't spend all weekends at the DZ... Erno
Nick 0 #19 August 2, 2002 I live about 15 miles from the DZ, so I would normally have a couple of drinks and then drive home. But recently I've stayed the night a couple of times (never sleeping in the car again!!!). Nick Nick Gravity- It's not just a good idea, it's the LAW! LOL...I can so relate to that. Aaahhh....sleeping in the car. I used to use my car like it was a hotel at the DZ....and here at Motel 8 we'll always leave the light on for ya
ScottishJohn 25 #21 August 2, 2002 I usually tent it over the weekend . Dive up friday evening, pitch tent, have a few beers. sunday evening take tent down , drive home , have something to eat, have a few beers. If i drive up on the saturday then I only take the small tent but for a full weekend I take the huge tent and sleep in the west wing and put all my gear in the East wing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers
flyhi 24 #22 August 2, 2002 I have stayed at and near the DZ (usually, very painful experiences), but not lately. 36 miles each way is not a bad trip. [hint]I am hoping to stay across the street from a DZ in the near future for, let's say one Saturday night in exchange for dinner(@ Jameson's?)/beer/jump tix.[/hint]Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #23 August 2, 2002 I own two houses in town, but stay in our RV at the dropzone all weekend, even though it's only 22 miles from home. I am all about the apres skydive experience, so it would be nuts to go home after skydiving. My RV stays plugged up at the DZ all the time, except when I am road tripping in it. bvsdjumper 0 #24 August 2, 2002 I live 90 miles (about 2 hours) from my home dz so I stay over regularly. I used to sleep on a couch in the club house but that got old (waking up to "full moons" every Sunday morning ). Now I bought a motorhome, and once I get the mechanics straightened out, I plan on making a habit of driving out Friday night to get the most out of the weekend. -Art
narcimund 0 #25 August 2, 2002 QuoteWhat does everyone do each weekend God no! I used to camp at a DZ when I was a teenager, but that got old and grungy quick! Now when we go for a whole weekend (which is rare with our schedule!) we get a nice hotel room in town, wake up Sunday to a hot shower, breakfast on a great latte and pastry, walk around a bit watching the city wake up, then head in to the DZ refreshed with plenty of time to jump.
