AggieDave 6 #28 August 2, 2002 Right now, seeing how I live literally 5 minutes from my DZ, I go home every night (well, not always home), but when I go DZ hopping, I sleep in the bed of my truck. I'm not a super big fan of bunk rooms (if the DZ has them) and I'd rather be outside anyways, so there I lay in the bed of my truck. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." dida 0 #30 August 2, 2002 we live a good hour and a half from the dz, so we've got a van that's all set up for sleeping/camping and we drive up friday night, sleep in the van, jump all day saturday, and drive back saturday night because my boyfriend has to work on sundays . our next move is to buy a bus - also set up for sleeping/camping/living - and travel around the country, going from drop zone to drop zone, living like wandering skydiving nomads. a couple of days ago we saw a huge completely decked out winnebago-type ultra-fancy camper and he said, "some day we'll have one of those". i said, "do we really need something that fancy?". he said, "well, we can't live at the drop zones forever", to which i replied, "why not?". he thought for about two seconds and said, "yeah, we can". spiral out...keep going... nws01 0 #31 August 2, 2002 Mark Gerlach is the Head Instructor at a DZ in Arkansas and he has a totally decked out bus. He took a school bus and chopped it up. It is now 2 floors, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, functional bathroom and a hot tub on the roof. He drives it around to different dropzones during the Arkansas off season. He is an Australian and is cool as hell. Great skydiver too.
hohonukai 0 #32 August 2, 2002 Quote[hint]I am hoping to stay across the street from a DZ in the near future for, let's say one Saturday night in exchange for dinner(@ Jameson's?)/beer/jump tix.[/hint] We actually have a room to put you up in! woohoo! You got it, except no need to take us out to dinner. We would like to make a jump with you though. Gravitysurf808 and I are so geeked, I even took today off to start packing. We're going to pick up beach chairs and margarita mix, so during your stay we can watch the sunset on the beach with our cocktails.
freeflir29 0 #33 August 2, 2002 I ALWAYS stay at the DZ. It's about 90 miles and takes 1 hour and 15 minutes normally. Usually, I leave for the DZ straight from work on Fridays and don't come home until Sunday night. I try to get home at least by 11 PM. I really can't see driving all the way back home. Skydive Atlanta has a HUGE hangar with several couches. I only sleep on the couches during the winter because of mosquitos and the heat. During the summer I throw down a matress in the Staff packing area. It's closed off and air conditioned. Not only does staying at the DZ NOT cost anything and save lots of gas money. It also lets me hang out and drink many beers without worrying about having to drive anywhere. Keeps me safe and it's cheaper. What else is there? Skyrose7 0 #35 August 2, 2002 I live about 60 miles away from my dz. I have stayed there a few times, but my dz is small, so we all have a couple beers and call it a night. That is the only thing that sucks about this place--I would camp there, but I would be the only one...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP.
