Texans should not be permitted to participate in anything...

Now, see here boy. I've met me a Texan or two lately. The ones I've met are pretty darn good at partyin' and not too awful bad at skydivin'.

I say we let 'em jump and we let 'em drink. Long as they don't come at me with a shotgun, Texans are okay by me.

;):D

...Dallas is a very cool place to live and visit, calling it crap (not u Paula) means you haven't spent enough time here. I've been across 'the River', and it's a whole different world - but I know some very cool Oklahomians...Austin, I would have to admit, is a cool place. Would move there in a heartbeat.
But you're missing the bigger picture here, the STATE of Tx is being flamed here, not just one city. As a texan, I love TX as a state, even Houston....;) (you're just jealous of our pro sports teams, like the LAST place/85 million dollar payroll Rangers :S).

No matter what the circumstances: be it tragedy, success, error, or victory, it will always be BIGGER in Texas. Everything is bigger in Texas: the land, the cars, the buildings, everything!

And much the way you don't mention the Panama canal in France, nor Vietnam to the children of the 60s and 70s, nor sea power to the British, you don't mention Alaska in Texas.

A few of life's lessons I learned the hard way. Learn from the mistakes of others, and you'll get hurt less.

anything north of Austin is crap and it is not Texas

CORRECTION: Austin is CRAP, I'm pretty happy with the rest of the state.

Coming from someone who grew up in North Texas (Read: Sherman, north of Dallas about an hour), Dallas is freak'n cool! I'd rather be there then in H-town or SA, actually. Eitherway, I love Texas, all of Texas (except Austin, well, and Lubbock...oh, and Waco...hehe, Gig'em Aggies, WHOOP!).B|

Come one, Dave! Do you honestly expect me to believe there is any intelligent life between the Mississippi River and the San Andreas Fault? ;):P

I've lived in and around Dallas most of my adult life. How long did you live there? I've lived other places around the state, and visited every major city (and quite a few minor ones too) more than a few times.
My observation, Dallas has nice folks, and Dallas has snobs...just like every other city. Dallas has an art scene, maybe not as great as other cities, but decent all the same.
Name something that you can do in Houston, or any other city, that you can't in Dallas (other than a shorter drive to the ocean water and climb a 15k mountain).
I basically think that Dallas is as good as any other place I've ever visited/lived. Other than these stupid hot summers, I like it.
What experience did you have to make you dislike it so much?

The problem with Dallas and Houston are the two capitols of EAST TEXAS. And us Texans who grew up down in the Valley, from San Antonio to Corpus on south, and in the far west and panhandle get our reputations tarnished thanks to the lucivious culture of our East Texan "bretheren."

My family has roots in McKinney (before all the yuppies started moving there... they owned the only general store which was closed down 15 years ago). It is more OK than Dallas, really. The other half is from McAllen, which is right on the border with Mexico. Many of the offspring live in all of the large cities and I visit them often.

From my own experience having worked up there, Dallas life is fast-paced like Los Angeles, congested as Austin, humid as New Orleans and nutty as San Fransisco.

I don't think I'll give up my greasy lard-laden authentic Mexican food and Everclear margaritas for the Big D and all the yankees living in it anytime soon. B| ¡Vive el puro San Antonio!

Just my $0.02! :P

I have got to say that I have had some outstanding times all over the state of Texas. I lived in Dallas, Fort Worth AND Arlington when I was a kid. Nothing like being within walking distance to six flag as a second grader!

As a grown man I have criss-crossed the state many times on business. I have partied on the river walk in SA, and taken down drug smugglers in Laredo (actually the Falcon Reservoir); both terribly fun. I have been pulled over by the cops for running 90mph just south of Dumas and have shot up roadsigns in El Paso while doing jumpmaster checks out of a rental van. My only bitch about Texas is that it takes FOREVER to drive across.

Maybe I'm weird, but I like and appreciate the differences in the cities of tejas.
I think SA is a beautiful city with strongs ties to the tx/mx history. Dallas (and Houston) is the metropolis that blows away the misconceptions of 'outsiders' views of our state. El Paso/McAllen and Mexico are pretty much integrated. Austin is awesome for it's laid back, hippie atmosphere (and by gosh, they have a statue of Stevie Ray). Amarillo....well hey, you can get a 72 oz steak in the most gaudy, texas-tacky restaruant in the world. Fredericksberg, two food groups, german beer and weinerschneitzel, baby. Luckenbach, to hang out with Willie, Waylon and the boys. Shiner, Tx......ya know. Odessa and Lubbock have to be the two most isolated cities I've ever seen, and any small town in west texas...you can't see that many stars in a clear sky anywhere.
But there are idiots in ANY of those places, NOT just east tx.
And don't flame La, because I like any state that gives us jambalya, ettoueffe (?), and especially....TABASCO.
Vive la difference....:)
