Whatever :|

Does being gay somehow mean that you don't fall as well as the rest of us?

As far as "testing the waters" 'cmon man! I think skydivers generally are the most accepting and tolerant cross-section 'o people I have ever met!!!

And dropzone.com is WAY too straight not to trigger our warning circuits. If gay bars are at one extreme, dropzone.com is the other end. That's a little weird.

I'd have to agree with this. My roommate is gay (I'm VERY hetrosexual), so I am fairly sensitive to whether things are "gay friendly" or not. Seems like testosterone gets thrown around by the bucket-full occasionally in here. At the same time, I think that most of the forum posters are fairly accepting, regardless of some of the stupid stuff that is posted.

Edit note: (changed wording to more accurately reflect what I mean. Thanks Lindsey. :P)

I know I have posted some things about a certain someone on here quite a bit. It is all in fun and that person may or may not be homosexual. It really doesn't matter to me either way. Narcimund I saw your post in the incident forum and I must say it took a lot to come out on here. Most people would just keep it to themselves. That is the good thing about a moderated forum. People of all nationalities, religions, sexual preferences, etc. can come together and share their different views and thoughts.

My only question is this. Us hetereosexuals on here love to express how much we like BOOBIES! Are you all going to start saying things like PENISES in reply? Kind of like a tastes great less filling thing?B|

First of all....I'm not flaming you or anything....just wanting to make a point about subtleties. To say we are "tolerant" implies, to me, that we put up with something that is, at best, less than optimal. How would ya' feel if people said....."Scottbre? Yeah...well we tolerate him...." (I'm sure that plenty of people tolerate me, too....lol.) Anyway....people are people. We all have a lot more in common than many of us want to think....when ya' find yourself thinkin' bad stuff about someone, or feeling "tolerant," then it's time to go look in the mirror, imho.

Peace~

I know you didn't mean it this way but read what you wrote independent of anything else. HEHE.... :D

The company I work for is over 20% non-conventional relationships. I live in Columbus, the third largest gay population in the nation as I was told. As such I'm extremely open to this environment and have been tuned in to how insensitive some things/people can be. I'd have to agree with Scott that if I said half the things that get said on these boards or at a DZ... I'd be pissing people off right and left at work and around town.

For the record, that person is not.

But who cares folks? Why are some of you so uptight? If you are confident about your sexuality, what do you care if someone you are not into "hits" on you? You just simply say, I am not interested and move on. Straight people are hit on by people of the opposite sex that they may not be attracted to all the time. I have a straight friend who happens to be hit on by guys and girls all the time, because he is good-looking. He totally laughs it off and it does not ruffle him at all. He knows what he likes.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh, and in response to the comment above saying "Keep it in PMs," I say: straight jumpers can crow about sex but gay jumpers should whisper in secret? Bah

That is why there is Vanilla AND Chocolate ice cream. Peoples tastes are not the same. What you might not think is funny might be hilarious to someone else. Nobody can post something and expect everyone to think it was funny. Except Clay!

Sexual orientation is only important if you plan on having sex with somebody. It really doesn't play any role in skydivng. ***

... unless you are doing a tandem, right?

Who cares if you are gay? So long as we all respect each other. There are many gay skydivers and that doesn't change the fact that they are good skydivers and cool individuals.

You sure? San Fran, New York, P-town, Key West, Houston all come to mind. I might buy per capita, but hard to believe by sheer numbers.

I've lived in southern California, worked in the entertainment industry and I've been around gay people ALL my adult life.

In the 1970s I understood why some gay people didn't really want to come out of the closet because it wasn't really all that accepted by society in general. Ok, that's cool with me. Personal choice.

In the 1980s I saw a good number of my friends die of AIDs before it was even understood what was happening. I saw the stigma attached to the disease and still understood why some of them chose not to come out.

In the 1990s, and this is clearly an outsiders point of view so take it for what you will, I saw the general acceptance of the gay community and huge strides in gay rights. There's still a bit to be done, but generally speaking, nobody in the straight community was shocked when somebody came out. Generally speaking, gays could hold just about any position they wanted and some were top government officials. As a matter of fact, the company I work for has one of the most progressive life-partner policies on the planet and we have a number of high level executives that are gay.

So, in the year 2002, I really don't understand why too many people, especially younger ones, would be all that concerned. Actually, I think some of them flaunt it for the attention -- flame on.

Ok, this might sound a little harsh, but if you want to be accepted by a society, then just go about your business and don't make a big deal about it. For the most part, nobody cares. Really.

On the other hand, if you show up at the drop zone in full flame mode, don't be surprised if you get a few comments. It's not because you're gay, but because you're acting different. RW flyers make fun of vRW flyer because they're different. vRW flyer make fun of RW flyer because they're different. Young kids make fun of old geezers and believe it or not, we old geezers sometimes make fun of the young kids.

It doesn't mean we can't get along, it's just the way it is.

all I will say is I make fun of everyone.
seriously!! If you are fat AND my friend I will make fun of you..In a fukt up friend way! if you got big ears...guess what....if youre gay... same rule applies. I do not treat you any differently then any one else.
if you want to NOT joke with you about something then tell me and I wont!! but I would think youre a little too sensitive for my taste...and not b/c youre gay. b/c youre sensitive! b4 the flamiong starts(no pun intended, yet)
here it is. I am not a politacally correct guy. and I grew up in NY sarcasm bleed through in every thing i do. UNder stand it. if you can t tolerate it let me know and I may try ito make a consciendce effort to stop....( but that would be like me asking you to stop being gay)

I am in NO way close to perfect I have my defects just like everyone else. find them and rip me out on them If I cant smile I will deal with it b/c Thats how I am!

Get a grip kid. Sexual orientation is only important if you plan on having sex with somebody. It really doesn't play any role in skydivng. It ain't all that.

You're here, you're queer, so what? We're used to it.

Quade, forgive gay people for being a little cautious and worried. There's a lot of history here.

I actually liked Paul's response. I came out when I was 18. Upon telling Jackie, my boss at the time, that I was gay she responded "So!" I was dumbfounded and speechless. Everyone else made a big deal out of it but she didn't. It took some time to process it but what she taught me was that it's a non-issue and I have treated it as one ever since. I've run in some pretty tough circles being completely out and had no problems because I treated it as the non-issue that it is.

Amen brother! However, I learned one thing after talking on some forums for a while. Voice inflection and expression can get lost in the written word. NY sarcasm can be really funny if delivered correctly, but if misunderstood it becomes very obnoxious. I have made this mistake here many times. I have stated a line and if you saw my expression and heard my voice when I said it, you may have laughed. However, without that expression and inflection, it has come across as rude and insensitive.
