SkyDekker 1,465 #29 July 24, 2002 Well, isn't this an interesting thread. I am about to get married to a complete whuffo. Actually to be more correct, she absolutely hates skydiving. That being said, she loves me and she understands the pleasure I get from it. So we, and here comes the ugly word, compromise...... I'll go jumpin on Saturday, but not party all night, get drunk and go home at 1 am. I'll have a beer after jumping and go home to spend time with her. Maybe I'll even not jump on Sunday so we can spend time together. I think that in a loving relationship compromise is a healthy and not so difficult thing. I truly enjoy spending time with her, so not jumping for a day is not a complete sacrifice. Maybe I don't sound like a true skydiver, but we are all individuals. Deuce 1 #38 July 24, 2002 My story is like Jfields. I was a cop for 13 years and got injured on the job. The injury took 2 years to recover from so they retired me (rat bastards). Stopping panel vans in Oakland at 2:30 AM is way more dangerous that anything that skydiving can dish out. It occurred to me while in the AFF program that skydiving equipment can kill you, but it can't murder you. Anyhow, I am an unabashed adrenaline junkie. Launching and 8 way is almost just like serving a felony warrant. Kick the door, clear the rooms, safe, debrief. All that concentration, adrenaline, and coordination without any of the guns or violence. That's me. Without skydiving or some positive outlet for who I am, I'm a miserable person to be around. If I hadn't found skydiving, my marriage would probably have failed. My wife has done a tandem, and could pass AFF, but isn't interested enough to spend our money on it. She comes out with our girls in the evenings and hangs out about once a month when I stay till sunset. Half of all marriages fail. If you're getting 75% of what you want, that's a passing grade. Don't bitch cause you don't have 100%. It seems like half the time you stay together for the kids, and the other half of the time you hope you're not going to wake the kids up! 16 years this September.
