I for one refuse to have my life dictated to me .

Stuff like that always makes me laugh. Now sit down and really think about it....your life is already being dictated to you. It is being dictated by the allmighty dollar.....please don't try throwing in these overly simplistic statements......

My favorite line...."Don't ever keep anything in your life that you can't walk away from in under 30 seconds." I like that philosophy! Keeps things simple and fun.

Right Clay, so you can walk away from skydiving in 30 seconds and never think about it again........

Exactly I didn't think so.....once again, please don't spout off these overly simplistic statements.....

I'll go jumpin on Saturday, but not party all night, get drunk and go home at 1 am. I'll have a beer after jumping and go home to spend time with her. Maybe I'll even not jump on Sunday so we can spend time together. (etc.... etc.. )

Wow, that sounds like Pat's speech before he got married. Y'all remember Pat? oh... that's right you probably wouldn't, he hasn't been to the DZ in about 4 years.[unsure] DOH!

Right and only skydivers who get married to whuffos say that they will do certain things and then not do what they have said they will.........

With a compelling enough reason ...Yes.

Exactly, now what if you had a compelling enough reason to net dedicate your whole life to skydiving......now what if that compelling reason was a woman you loved........

I know you'll say that in your case that is impossible.....but maybe you could consider that with other people that might be a possibility.......

I hate to admit it, but now that I think about it, I must have spent almost 12 grand on skydiving this first 15 months. Rig, helmets, cameras 205 jumps plus AFF.

That was dead-bang all of our disposable income, and then some. I've got a 4 way camera gig that is going to cut my jump ticket expense way down, and I don't need any more skydiving stuff (but oh, a second rig would be nice) so it's definitely her turn.

If she had taken up professional golf, or downhill skiing would I have been patient and understanding that there wasn't as much money to do my stuff as I'd like? Would I have been as secure with her around studly guys as she is with me around gorgeous ski divas? (well yeah, "I'm dead-sexy" -Fat Bastard)

I get her flowers every week and count my blessings.

How many marriages can stand up to somebody who suddenly gets into stock-car racing, or any other really expensive hobby/sport? I think it's more about that than skydiving.

Skydiving gave me the courage to leave my x and a happy place to go during the divorce process.

I made my first jump on Sunday, July 21, 1996 and told him I was moving out on Tuesday July 23rd. He didn't care enough to come watch my first jump. He was also an unemployed alcoholic with a genius IQ. although he lacked common sense.

It's quite simple, actually. If you must fall in love with and marry a whuffo, make sure that he/she has his/her own expensive, adrenaline-filled hobby to take up their time. :P

That's what I did.

I skydive. He races motorcycles. Neither of us tells the other that they can't do their hobby anymore.

I'm of the belief that the one you're meant to be with would NEVER tell you to give up something else that you love for their sake.

My husband knows that I wouldn't be the same fun-loving gal he married if I couldn't skydive...so why would he make me give it up?

This IS an interesting thread! Hey SkyDekker, I don't know how long you've been engaged for but congratulations anyway!

As far as the "absolutely hates skydiving" part... well that really isn't good to hear... Hate is a big word and I would tend to think that my life partner should not hate anything that I love... It's okay to have seperate interests but you're setting up for trouble anytime your go to the DZ if she "hates" the sport (nomadda wat she say 'bout "it's alright, I don't mind if you go")... My girlfriend is a whuffo who is somewhat interested but that's just because she loves her bo and her bo LOVES to skydive!!!

Does the fiance roll her eyes and sigh when you're watching the FlyBoyz Party Mix and say "baby watch this one! Watch how smooth this guy is! and blah blah blah..." That's what she's hearing right? My girl too...

To all skydivers who love whuffo's that really don't get it, I recommend you show them footage of YOU in freefall with friends... the "big goofy smiles" will do the trick.... I can't think of a situation which would put her shoes on my feet but I'm sure If I was able to see a smile like that on her face... I'd intantly love what she was doing as much as I love her.

BINGO!

If your future wife wants to change you, she's your future ex-wife. 20 years ago did you think you'd be who you are today?

You do not know who you will be 20 years from now. Married life is a journey into the unknown. Marry someone is a good traveling companion and go find out who you're gonna be when your old.

Luminous,
I'm sure some people do get married and stop jumping, despite loud exclamations that they'll continue the hobby.
Others quietly manage the situation and keep jumping. It depends on the person.

Don't get me wrong. I wish SkyDekker the BEST of both worlds. I totally agree that there are those that manage.
I based my statment on SkyDekker's comment that "she absolutely hates skydiving", which is exactly the way Pat's then fiance felt. indifference would allow a possibility. hate? well.... I wish SkyDekker the BEST of both worlds. :)

No my life has not been dictated to me . I do what I want , when I want to do it with whoever I decide to do it with . If I feel like pissing away money I don't have to answer to anyone . I don't take shit from anyone when I come home three days late . I have a girlfriend that lives with me and her only comment when I leave is " I'll see you when you get home " . I do not let my judgment become clouded by " love " . I hope it works out for you but I have seen so many of my friends living a compromised life that is being dictated to them by their spouse .

Thanks Free. What the hell do you have in your hand in your picture?

How come Fallingfast doesn't have a profile?

How many posts do I have to go to the next level?

Why is there 30-year old orange carpet in this building?

Exactly how much longer until load 1 on Saturday?

Can I launch a Greased Safe exit from a KingAir?

Does this canopy make my ass look fast?

GET ME OUT OF HERE!

Thanks for listening. That is all.
