lippy 918 #26 July 18, 2002 The JMs and TMs at my old DZ had some good ones. Hooking the S/L to the next student's 3-ring, or giving it to the pilot and saying 'now don't let go this time!!!' The best is the briefing of the tandem student on clouds: 'If the clouds are thick enough, they'll slow us down. If they're real thick, we might stop, then I'll unhook you, we'll walk to the edge, hook back up and jump.'I got nuthin
Rhonda66 0 #27 July 19, 2002 I did the same thing on my first tandem jump. I had no intention of jumping because my sister was supposed to jump first with her TM and she had never even flown before so I was positive she'd back out and then I'd just have to ride the plane back down with her. Well, guess what? She gets right into the door of the Otter and before I know it, out they go. I just froze because I didn't even really listen to how the jump was going to go on the ground because I had no intention of actually making one that day. My TM gets in the door and says, "Are you ready to skydive?" I just remember making this horrible whining noise (I sounded just like the character "Pat" from SNL), but my TM completely ignored me and out he went - I jammed my eyes shut and pretended it was a carnival ride and I could actually hear my TM yelling "open your eyes" in freefall and me crying "I can't"...lol - what a loser...I'll love my TM forever too for doing that because it got me past that initial fear...The next tandem (a year later with the same TM) was so much fun I signed up for AFF right afterwards. seedy 0 #28 July 19, 2002 I was the tandem student. After rigging up, and while walking to the plane, the TM says, "We must be nuts. Gonna jump from a perfectly good airplane." I replied, " I dunno about being nuts. We have parachutes." He says, " Well, all but one of us does." I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. freeflytim 0 #29 July 19, 2002 Not to a student, but to one naive young packer on a cloudy day... Sent him all over the airport looking for a bucket of prop wash. robzay 0 #30 July 19, 2002 On an Otter load of freeflyers and tandems, one of the ff got a gleam in his eye and started asking for someone to jump with... he was too scared to go alone. At 13,000 he checked the spot and came back into the plane screaming that he wasn't going out there. We literally threw him out of the plane. He went laughing out the door head down. A couple of the tandems had some choice explatives! Once the tandems saw him on the ground they were okay!

PhillyKev 0 #32 July 19, 2002 I got a bloody nose in freefall once. It stopped by the time I pulled, but there was blood sprayed all over my face and helmet. It was my last jump of the day and I was renting gear. So I took it back to the gear store, walkin past the loading area full of tandems. I hadn't seen the blood on my face yet but figured it must be bad by the look of terror on the faces of all the tandems. I wish I knew what the conversations in the plane on the ride up were. Jasmin 0 #33 July 19, 2002 My gear got knicked and whilst I was saving up for new gear I had to use student gear. So we did heaps of stupid stuff like that, I pretended to be a first time jumper who was a no-go(Nads and Shon borrowed the CI's jumpsuits) They picked me up and literally pushed and tossed me out the back of the skyvan kicking and screaming, before grinning and chasing me out! We filmed it all of course, the tandem students, and especially the AFF students, freaked! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." VectorBoy 0 #38 July 21, 2002 I was going to pull at 9k to demo a canopy. Absolutely last out was a wing-suit jumper and we worked out a fly-by while I float in brakes. As I was crouching to let the two tandems, boyfriend girlfriend couple, get by me the really freaked out girlfriend closed her eyes tilted her head back and screamed "I love you" right as I was going by but obviously to her man seated across from her. I reached down touched her leg and said "I love you you too. There is a lot of love on this plane and now I'm going up to hug our pilot". Everybdy loved it. And you? Eh, I've been jumping for 5 years now (if you include tandem years). That's not to say I don't occasionally f*ck it up...... I don't get picked/pranked on that much at the DZ simply because I have a tendency for Freudian slips which do me in anyway! Ummmmm like in an arguement over whose jumping what gear on whose tickets...."The only thing you can jump is.....my arse!" nws01 0 #41 July 22, 2002 We had a lot of hot tandem females this weekend. as the Tandem Instructors strapped on I told the females that the instructors took Viagra and that I would be a little worried to have them strap themselves on to me because it would be like a dog humping their leg. We got a few laughs out of their reactions.
skyjames 2 #42 July 22, 2002 Our main jumpship is a turbin Porter, nine ppl max. Several times I have seen the TM undo an old harness clip from an eyelet at the top rear of the plane. The clip has a little webbing left on it and is quite frayed. After the 'student' is secured the TM will ask them to lean forward a little so he can tighten the shoulder strap a little more. " Wouldn't want you to fall out, you know?" he would say. While the 'student' is leaning forward he tugs real hard on a strap having his thumb hooked under the harness, then he snaps his thumb out and says "OH SHIT!", bringing into the 'students' view the old harness snap with frayed webbing. Sometimes he will ask another jumper if they think its safe to only have three points connected, or say something like: "Well this was the last day this rig was going to be used anyway." Some 'students" catch on right away, but the look on the ones that don't, hoooo-ya! james "exit fast, fly smooth, dock soft and smile" 'nother james
