A12 0 #1 July 18, 2002 I've seen some peeps at my DZ this past weekend and they were wearing necklaces (or chokers) that had the pin that the ADD uses to release the reserve chute I believe. I forgot to ask them before I left, but I was wondering if anyone has seen these somewhere (either online or in the MA area) Thanks If you want to fly, get out of the plane! howardwhite 6 #2 July 18, 2002 Adam There are at least two common necklace pieces, at least in MA. One is a curved pin a little less than an inch long, with a loop at the top. These are used for closing main containers. The other is a straight thingy about three inches long, worn horizontally. It's a tool used for closing mains. Should be easy to find at your local parachute shop or from a rigger. You want I should get you one or the other? (You supply the necklace.) HW

skybytch 273 #4 July 18, 2002 Most of those necklaces use a curved pin, which is what holds the main container shut on most sport rigs. On a side note - it's best if the jumper pulls the pin that holds the reserve container shut. Waiting for the AAD to do it is bad form.
PhreeZone 20 #5 July 18, 2002 The hot thing around our DZ is to have a cypres cutter on the necklace. On of the jumpers has a friend that has good ties at Airtec and he gets all the old fired cutters, and cutters from before its been converted to the field serviceable. He strips the electrontics and cutter and puts it on the necklace.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

A12 0 #8 July 18, 2002 Just want to clear the air, I completely understand that you don't wait for the AAD to pull the reserve, its a backup device and thats it. If I look up and see a bag of shit floating above my head, I am cutting and releasing my own chute. I was just trying to describe the pin that I THOUGHT was the that pin. Just wanted to let everyone know that I had no intention of letting the AAD pull my chute. If you want to fly, get out of the plane! It's really good to know that there are people who like our necklaces enough (and service since I have found on here that there are a lot more then me who appreciate good service) to recommend us :) I miss a lot of threads now with the new job! Hrm, lessee... on Dolphin containers the control unit is pretty easy to get at, just reset somebody's on the way up. j/k -- Hook high, flare on time
A12 0 #16 July 19, 2002 Just out of curiosity...is it possible that the used in the necklaces is used as the reserve pin on a student rig? I am almost positive that during my last gear inspection, I saw that pin and it was in the same place as the reserve "seal"...I was told I don't want the end of that pin showing... Either way, the first thing I do when I get to the DZ Sat is check out that pin...all confused now. If you want to fly, get out of the plane! AggieDave 6 #17 July 19, 2002 You're thinking of the straight pins, the ones used for PUDs (pull-out) instead of BOC. They look similar to a reserve pin, I guess.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
