I do a lot of stuff myself but tearing apart the insides of a transmission is not something I'm going to get into. I replaced the clutch about 5 years ago and even with a shop full of every tool on the planet it was a MAJOR pain in the ass. Have any idea how much an SR-4 tranny and Dana 300 transfer case weigh. I don't either but it's a lot!!! The bearings on the main shaft were toast. So, that means you might as well replace ALL the bearings with it. The bad bearings chewed the cluster gear to crap. A cluster gear was $400 all by it's lonesome. I WOULD have to break one of the most expensive gears in the thing!!! That tranny lasted a little over 7 years or so though. I can't complain too much. Have you tried looking on line for used replacements, that are usually quite cheap? Unfortunately, that also means that the parts can be hard to find. Although, I just did a search on Quadratec and found that cluster gear for $210. I'm not sure of the exact total on it from the shop but I know it was $300 and something dollars. So, yeah...I could have gotten it cheaper through them. The worst part is....it's my freakin transportation and I can't wait around forever on shopping and shipping of parts. It's already been in the shop since Monday. Luckily my brother let me drive his car to work but I hate doing that. Plus, with crap like transmission parts it can be a real pain in the ass to get the "right" part. It's a J.E.E.P.........Just Empty Every Pocket... PS...I just noticed something else. They have a 37 tooth but not the 35. With my luck.....I have the 35...
