Jabeln79 0 #1 July 3, 2002 I first must say I havent been able to get on the internet for awhile due to lots of work and lack of connection so this is the first time ive seent the new site, I thinks it pretty cool. But anyway I just wanted to say that ill be gone for a little while.. I joined the army and will be shipped out 8/7/02. not much time left. Basic training will be at Fort Knox kentucky, AIT at Fort Lee Virginia, Airborne at Fort Benning Georgia, and my home station of Fort Bragg North Carolina. My MOS is 77F Petroleom Supplies Sp. So ill be pumping fuel for helicopters, Im sure. Although my cousin ( a west point grad) thinks he can recomend my for warrant officer flight school so i can fly for the army. So who all jumps at Raeford, I have a feeling ill be spending all my free time out there. What is the DZ like , and what are the regular jump planes there. Before i go in i will be spending 2 weeks in Sanibel Island. FL. anyone jumpe down there near Naples or Sarasota. My last week will hopefully be spent at Rantoul. Well sorry for the long post just wanted to let you all knowBlue Skies Joe "Knowledge is the antidote to fear." --- Ralph Waldo Emerson

slotperfect 7 #4 July 3, 2002 Congratulations! I have been in for 18 years, and it has been a great life. Look me up when you get to Ft. Bragg . . . email me with questions between now and then. Raeford is a busy DZ with a full-time Otter and two Cessna 182's. There is a Super Otter and Casa on call for special events. There is a skydiving school that does tandem and teaches AFF. Sky Kat gear store is on the premises, as is Aviator's bar and grill. A full-service Rigger Loft takes care of your gear maintenance needs. The Golden Knights train there, along with other military groups. You will love it here when you arrive. Of course, the only reason I hang out there is to absorb some of the magic from SkyMonkeyOne. I just can't seem to get in the damn pictures!?!?!?Arrive Safely John

nws01 0 #6 July 3, 2002 Going to Raeford will be fun. It is an outstanding dropzone from what I hear. You will meet several dz.commers such as SkyMonkeyOne, SlotPerfect and CoconutMonkey. If you are going to be in Sarasota you have a few options. The Naples DZ has some REALLY cool people. It is a small dz with a 182 and is open only on weekends though. I used to jump there. But, you are gonna be in Sarasota so you could get to Z Hills in about the same time it would take you to get to Naples. Z Hills rocks too! Good luck and have fun! PLFKING 4 #7 July 3, 2002 QuoteOf course, the only reason I hang out there is to absorb some of the magic from SkyMonkeyOne. That's the only reason I go there too ! You'll like it, Joe......pretty cool place with all the amenities. All the Bragg jumpers I've met have been fun folks to hang with. Don
SkymonkeyONE 4 #8 July 3, 2002 Raeford has been my home DZ since 1984. It is a fantastic place to skydive and just hang out. Full service restaurant and bar, very busy rigger loft, very professional school, SkyKat, three turbines on the premesis, and the flattest, greenest grass landing area you will ever find. Tons of shade, 30 amp RV hookups, and lastly: Skymonkey Kingdom. Holler at me or John when you get to town. Everyone there will know exactly where I am at any given time. slotperfect 7 #11 July 5, 2002 Pssst! Raeford is all of 3.5 hours from Ft. Lee! If you want some DZ's closer for your weekends, West Point is close, as is Skydive Orange and Skydive Suffolk. There should be some locals from those places here, just throw a post out there and see who bites! http://www.skydivethepoint.com/ http://www.skydiveorange.com/ http://www.skydivesuffolk.com/ If you have no transportation, I have a friend who is an Instructor at Ft. Lee, but drives down to Bragg almost every weekend (AND jumps at Raeford). I bet I can hook you up! I have known him since Basic Training, so he's GOT to owe me a favor by now. Let me know when you are ready to ship out - I'll PM you my contact info . . .Arrive Safely John
