AndyMan 7 #1 June 29, 2002 Let me start this off on a "not TOO bad" note. I broke my ankle friday night, trying to make the sunset load at Chicagoland. I pulled into the parking lot to find the sunset load on a three minute call. I ran to my riggers trailer, banged on the door and grabbed my rig. Ran to my gear bag, grabbed an altimeter and my helmet, stuck my sunglasses on my forehead and started running for the plane, putting my gear on in the process. As I hit the prob-blast, my sunglasses went flying. As I turned to grab them, my ankle rolled under and gave way, I hit the ground. I didn't get up. Two hours later, I find myself with a fractured tillus, and I will be down for two monthes, at least. I've always known that gearing up while running to the plane is bad karma, I should've known better. Hopefully, this is the most action this forum will see for a while. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
rgoper 0 #2 June 29, 2002 dang, that's too bad, sorry it happened, hope you heal well, and in a timely manner. lesson learned here? i think andy made it clear, don't gear up while in a hurry, there's always another load to catch. thanks for sharing that andy, i've caught myself pulling that same stunt, i have to force myself to slow down, especially when i first arrive, and see the otter taking off, knowing it's a 15 minute call to the next load!--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
TomAiello 26 #3 June 29, 2002 Condolences. I had a very similar fracture on May 16th, and I'm already walking. I expect to be jumping sometime next month. I bet you'll make it before two months.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

freeflir29 0 #6 June 29, 2002 That sucks...but it may have been worse if you actually made it to the plane. I've rushed my packing and gearing up before and it is normally a bad thing!!! Luckily it hasn't caused any serious problems.
skybytch 273 #7 June 30, 2002 Two months?!?! Two months?!?!? Noooo.... that... that... that means... no Rantoul! Tell the doc five weeks maximum And enjoy the pain pills...
Jessica 0 #8 June 30, 2002 I still have like, 11 extra Vicodin. I was going to save them for particularly bad nights at work, but say the word, Andy, and they're yours. UGH that sucks!!! I had a nightmare last night that I did the same thing -- geared up while running to the plane -- and realized on jump run that my leg straps weren't threaded and I didn't have an altimeter. Gearing up in a rush is bad juju! I hope you get better fast and that we still get to jump together at Rantoul.Skydiving is for cool people only
skymama 37 #9 June 30, 2002 That just goes to show, some people just can't do two things at once! I haven't jumped in 3 weeks due to just picking up my parachute the wrong way....but I'll be up again next weekend. Hope everything heals straight and strong. AndyMan 7 #18 June 30, 2002 Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I was really starting to get depressed when I got home today, but you all brought a smile to my face. Lisa? You think I'll pass up Rantoul? I still think I'll come down, maybe for just the last weekend though. No, sadly I won't be jumping, I don't imagine. Lindsey - thanks fo that awsome PM. I doubt very much Gold Coast is gonna work, but I'll make sure to reschedule. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

PhreeZone 20 #21 June 30, 2002 Looking good in the cast Andy.... BTW.. you CAN jump in a cast, if you can stand on it with no crutches its jumpable. We got one at the DZ doing that currently. We also had one jumping with crutches.... so maybe WFFC is'nt out completely. Andy, You can just hold court in the tent and orchestrate the nig noggery! Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
