JerryBaumchen 1,373 #26 October 4, 2013 Hi Mark, Quote Jerry, do you think we can get the manufacturers, USPA, DZOs, and jumpers on board with our program? Some, I doubt most; but who knows. I have personally had discussions with two ( one very large mfr and one rather smaller mfr ) and both have said that they would like to get the FAA out of this business. Now PIA should develop a questionaire/poll and see what responses you get? I would suggest one with numerous options as to how to go forward with 'some' change. There was an effort back in the late 70's/early 80's that got substantially shot down by a vast majority of mfrs. Just a thought, JerryBaumchen PS) One more thought: Let each mfr decide which version of the TSO standard(s) he wants to self-certify to. PPS) ETA for a typo or three. IIRC, that was an FAA trial balloon in the late 80's. What I remember is is that it didn't go any farther because neither PIA nor USPA wanted to be in the rigger certification business, USPA having tried it with the ram-air rigger rating around 1980. JerryBaumchen 1,373 #28 October 5, 2013 Hi Mark, Quote an FAA trial balloon I really do not recall the specifics and/or details. It might have been the feds. But I do remember that the vast majority of mfrs wanted nothing to do with it. Having had multiple TSO's since 1979, I am convinced that a self-certifying system would work just as well as the 'FAA oversight,' whatever that might/might not be. You have to move the sun and the Earth to change a FAR. Only Superman can move the sun and the Earth. Therefore only Superman can change a FAR. But that's OK. He's an expert BASE jumper, and can out-track... well... anybody, so I presume he's on our side.
