Dating Skydivers???

Recommended Posts

Girls don't want a nice guy, but they don't want an a**hole, either. What I mean is that they want someone who won't be a pushover, getting your way all the time can get boring.....tee hee hee
Awwww, Chris, you're such a "nice" guy......NOT!!

Ok, update on this.
Since my ground hugger and I started dating, she has been living with her head buried in the sand, convincing herself that this sport is PERFECTLY safe, and NOTHING can EVER happen to me. Well, after an accident this weekend involving one of my 4way teammates,(see Jaybirds broken wing thread) I think a hurricane just blew thru her world and took away all her sand.
She now has been slapped in the face with the realities of skydiving, and doesnt like it one bit. I know opposites attract, but in this case I think we are polar opposites. The only way to make it work is either she gets un-anxious (she is xanex anxious by nature) or I quit skydiving. Neither one is gonna happen, and it wouldnt be fair to either to continue. I love her very much, she is sexy, sweet, etc. but I just think we are too different. I still want her in my life, but we would both be miserable dating I think.
Sound reasonable??? I think I am gonna go tonight and talk to her (she lives an hour away too :( )
*sigh*

Yes, talk to her tonight. You've made the decision and any more time that goes by with her not knowing isn't fair.
Good luck. :( Breakups SUCK. Sometimes I think even more so when you're the one doing the dumping -- the agony is longer. Getting dumped hurts worse, but it's over quicker.

I guess it depends on your level of involvment in the sport. I know people whose significant other is a golfer, doesn't cause a problem really. My luck with dating skydivers has been pretty bad plus I work at the DZ as a videographer so I really don't need the drama, you dig? Like I always say: don't piss where you play. As long as you make the time to not skydive every damn weekend then it should be ok. If what you want is a relationship that nicely fits with your hobbies you may be asking too much and it sounds like it has been a recurrent problem in the past, balance is always the key. Besides, if you date someone at the DZ you jump at and the relationship goes to shit and the female starts dating another skydiver at the same DZ you gonna wanna jump there? A good friend of mine took about 9 weeks out of the sport for that exact reason.
Just a thought, the only one I have had in over a week worth sharing.

Hmmm, this is the first post where the word "balance" has been uttered. I was wondering if skydivers knew that word :)If I were in a relationship (I think I still remember what it's like) I would like it to take place off the dz as well as on.

Well so far so good for hook and I. Yesterday was our 1 year aniversary and we are still going strong. He even figured out a way to get up here one week earlier, so he will now be here in 2 weeks vs. 3. :)How do you know it's love??
When he drops a SWEET job at NASA to move half way across the country to be with you. Although, I'm sure the fact that it was to CO didn't hurt at all. ;)

Date a whuffo? Never

I agree. Unless they are some sort of extreme sportist themselves and know what it is like to have a passion for something like we do for skydiving. I have seen far too many men (and women) get bent out of shape because their SO spends every weekend at the dz partaking in jumping and crazy parties (not that skydivers get crazy or anything ;)). Even to the point of thinking their SO is having an affair because they simply don't understand what it is like to have such a passion for something.
I am Soooooo glad that I have my sweetie and we can have a blast jumping and causing trouble together. :)Tee
